Nationalism is effected but not in an offensive way. You can go to other countries and buy many saws that have been shut down by the epa in the states. I prime example is the beloved 288xp/ms361 if you got the money you can still bye them brand new.
Like MM said look at modern diesel trucks. So much crap that you can take off that is not necessary. Or does not last. Think egr coolers on the newer ford diesels. All the regen crap they put on.
Removing the stuff is the easy part now. The hard part is finding the software needed to reprogram the truck. Haven't had any issues with mine yet after almost 2 years and a little over 31,000 miles but the day I do it's getting deleted. A guy I work with has the same setup as mine deleted and he gets substantially better fuel mileage plus he doesn't have to worry about fault codes caused by the emissions system.
The USA and the Europe polluting the planet the same, in our case (chainsaws ) i dont think that a ported saw will polluting the earth much more than a non ported saw, where is the differnce a little more fast or noisy if you want. so is not the EPA , is because the stihl - husky want to make them like this for some reasons , maybe they dont want take the risk and put the saws to theirs limits , so again we come back to the same wich is they care about theirs image, name , pocket.
You thing that the stihl - husky havent try to port a saw or is dificult for them ? and why EPA stop a better saw if dont pollute the environment and if is safe for the operator?
The EPA dont shut down the stihl 361 the stihl stop to produce it because of 362 the same for the 288 , and in europe is a dificult to find them brand new , maybe in some east europe countries find some pieces but in countries like germany, france, and others, is also dificult to find even a 362 non mtronic.
The reason the saws are toned down, is STRICLY because of the EPA regulations. It has nothing to do with Stihl not wanting to get the most out of their saws, trust me. They would loooooooove to sell a better saw, they just can't. It hurts their image the way it is now, it is not working in their favor. You have this reversed.
So tell me why a ported saw is a bad saw for the EPA and dont leave the stihl to make them . do you think that a factory ported saw will pollute much more than a stock ?? do you think that will be more dangerus for the operators ?? dont need 15000 rpms to cut a leg 5000 is fine so maybe is not only the EPA maybe and the stihl - husky like this way .
It's all about the pollution. A factory ported saw would pollute a lot more than a stock one, because the saw makers are doing the same thing to their saws that auto makers did in the 70s and 80s to meet the first rounds of EPA restrictions on carbed engines. Stihl and Husqvarna both have the know how and test cells to build engines that would run as fast or faster than anything Mastermind or the other porters could make, because they can not only change the port timing/areas and compression ratios, but they can also modify the volume of the crankcase, carburation, transfer port shapes, exhaust tuning, etc, some of which are very difficult for porters/tuners to do. I'm sure some of the de-tuning of factory saws has to do with the need to deal with less than perfect maintenance/user abuse, but mostly the lack of power relative to ported saws is due to emissions and pollution requirements.
