Cause some of us require pictures to learn! That's the part that surprises me on this. You can get in big trouble if you remove the cat converter on your car, so it's surprising they let us "remove" things on 2 cycles... I'm guessing it's only because it would be impossible to police it.....
There are places where you would not want to be caught with a modified muffler on a saw. (Public land)
I have a video , the stihl director or big boss if you want drink coffe with the German pressident Helmut Kohl so what EPA and bullchit i read hear. Where the chemicals that the use go after finish the job ? to the rivers , to the lakes, to the seas ?? where ? They tell to the EPA or others emissions what to writte or what not depent of what fit to them better and what the EPA tell ...... put plastic limiters to the carbs ? and screen to the muffler why the EPA dont tell to them ok boys from know on all models with catalytic mufflers ?? Yeah we dont ported the saws because of EPA ........ bullchits.
Thats hard to follow But I guess you basically said they do what the EPA says so your basically backing up your claim they dont know how or dont have the tools?
What he's saying is, the rest of the world views our EPA as a joke. And making rules up as they go. And not always in the best interests of the "environment". But I could be wrong... But I don't think so.
You really believe all theese bullchits that the factories( example stihl) will do what the EPA tell ? ohh come on friend come to the real life , they dont give a chit for the EPA or the others like the EPA. care only for theirs name , image, wallet.
You know and here in europe we have jokes like your EPA but i cant understand for what the EPA care , i really dont understand why a saw must have muffler screen, or carb limiter caps , or limited coils or the saw must dont go over 14000 rpms and many other jokes like them. If i want to start a fire to the forest i for sure dont use the saw muffler if i want to break the carb sure the two plastic limiters caps cant stop me if i want make 100 holes to the muffler sure the limited coil dont stop me again so lets tell me someone what is the EPA plan , and for what care , for the enviornment, for my safety, for the saw , for the stihl for what
Cause at least when it event out the door it was compliant. Most are too dumb to know how to modd a saw so 90% will stay as the factory made them.
I am not sure why nationalism is creeping into a discussion about saws. The reality is that the US is a huge / dominant market, and the EPA is very influential over what is available in that market. Is the EPA stupid, counterproductive, whatever? - that is another discussion, and probably not a productive one. I just wanted to know why saws don't appear to run as well as they should / could from the factory. I think I have my answer, at least something close enough to it. Thanks for the discussion everyone. Greg
The funny/interesting part of this "discussion" of EPA vs Euroland is, the EPA is influential today and has tight regulations like these motors, BECAUSE OF THE EURO's! Euro's complained (and still do!) "Americans are polluting the planet...", so he EPA had to get tighter. Now they complain the EPA won't let them make the stuff they sell us good enough because of the regulations.... Catch 22 anyone??
Thats certain Fed and state lands. Others could care less. If you start a fire you might have a problem but around here on the fed land I cut on there are no "muffler police" or restrictions against it. If there were some of the old saws would not be allowed.
Why a saw can run much better than a stock saw is the same reason a bike can run much better than a stock bike. In order to pass EPA specifications, the manufacturers do things that are not in the best interest of the equipment but will pass some arbitrary testing standard. They then certify that they have tested the equipment and it complies. I don't know enough about saws yet, but my bike runs much better than it did when I bought it new.
