biggest issue i recall about horizontal cylinder saws was the possibility of fires from the way the exhaust is exited from the saw, i really don't think power increases or decreases from cylinder orientation, though most saws that are horizontal tend to be long stroke, smaller bore style saws...........

i recently had a 680 come in the shop for minor repair and sharpening, i was pleasantly surprised how well it ran, considering the owner was running the wrong, and too big of a bar on it, i think it has a 28 or 30 inch b/c, the 680 may be able to pull it, but if it where mine, i'd go no bigger than a 24" b/c............:saw:

I run mine with a 20". With a nice sharp chain it is almost like a hot knife through butter.

Things have been not so good for me lately. I've been selling whatever isn't bolted down to help with my custody battle. Was down to a one saw plan....my Echo CS-271 T. But thanks to Old040.... We did some good trading ( I don't have any cash :( ). I consider my self lucky that I ended up with such a nice saw. An Echo 590 Timberwolf ! Did some good cutting with it today. I was very impressed with how easy of a saw it was to handle. Perfect with a 20 inch bar ! Reminds me of a Husqvarna 257. Not called a "pro" saw....but in my book it is :). Reliable...smooth and predictable
    Thanx again Mark !!!
    It's the perfect mate for the 271 !!!! Now I have a good healthy two days plan :) IMG_20150713_112047852.jpg IMG_20150713_092012209.jpg IMG_20150713_090552240.jpg IMG_20150713_090531189.jpg

I've been tempted to buy one of these, but I wonder has anyone found a coil that is unlimited? Does the 600 still have a limited coil?

I still like a saw to run around 15-16K ;) lol that 13,000 isn't enough to beat J.Walker, SquareFile, Stihl bro, Birddogtg, etc...

Its got a ton of in the wood power and doesn't bog at all but I'd love a little more speed myself.. Its probably the most reliable saw I've owned so I live with it.
