Neat stuff! I spent both after dusk and before dawn near our deck the summer our lil one was born. We had a tile roof put on a few years before........Apparently some bats found shelter in the rake edgings. Very cool to see them take off late summer nights, come back through again several times (guessing to eat insects attracted by inside lights), then fold up so tiny and go back under the rake before dawn. It was such a joyful summer, including them.

Bats sure do work hard eating bugs. I bought a bat house, but once I read where it had to be placed, I wasn't able to put it up. I really hate to see the disease taking out large populations of them.

yes bats are good, except when they get in your house. As most of you know I got cathedral ceilings. last spring at night bat gets into house, master bedrooom, wife Screams :hair: and runs to bath really loud!. I got no pics because at 3 am going to get step ladder a box and piece of coilstock, to climb up to 17 foot ceiling, I did not want to kill bat. put box over him slid metal to make top of box.. so both hand busy climbing down ladder with no hands put him on trailer outside. I'm daylight box is empty
never thought it was something I would experience.
if just me would have shut him in room and slept in spare bedroom till daylight.
I explained this to wife she said ah NO!

In mid 70's rented old farm house - at the beginning things were fine but as the weather warmed up strange sounds began to emanate from various walls and such total freaking my young wife. Bed room was an enclosed room in the attic with just a large hole in the floor w/grate to allow heat in there ( well a bit anyway) so as she was exiting the bed room one morning heading for the bath on main floor one of little brown cuties got tangled up in her hair. She being a city girl, I will leave the rest to your capable imagination...... Yes, we moved about a month or so later.

"Very cool to see them take off late summer nights, come back through again several times"... Ah good memories... When my honey and I were first married, we stayed all summer at our old camp on Webb Lake. About 3-4 bats had a perfect spot up under the trim on the front edge of the porch roof. Skeeters, blackflies and minges were bad so close to the water. Every evening the "boys" would head out and fly back and forth right in front while we'd watch the show behind the screened porch, waves washing in... really nice. That was 1976. A great summer for us there too WW.

Though it's been a while, I haven't forgotten my days in SE WI. At their worst, I would have to run to my car or I had 15-20 of 'em sticking me within a few seconds. Here, once in a while you might get a couple in the late afternoon. You can sit out at night and they don't usually seem to be around.

Be safe everyone, look out for the hazards of summer cutting. I been working nonstop, tree removals galore.......

I'll be on more in the coming weeks/months.

This is what I posted on the company Facebook page the other day!

"Just wanting everybody to know that we are now carrying a new product at a GREAT price! What is this newfangled thing you ask? Mosquitos! Due to the demand we are only able to sell them in bulk at this time. These are not your everyday variety but very aggressive and active ones. Just let us know how many you need and we will get them out to you! (Some may be slightly smashed)!"

not sure how many of the Wisconsin mosquitoes would fit in that little trap...
May even need a bigger opening in the bottle top. They grow 'em big out there!!!;)

I think we need to try this trap
    thanks for sharing

You can bet your sweet bippy on that one!

Today I got on the atv and went in back to change cards in trail cameras. Of course, I also took my wife and we both had Thermacell units. As soon as we'd stop we could see skeeters all around us but it did not take long to clear them out. I think I may have gotten bit once and we were stopped for quite a while once because of a problem with one of the cameras. I'd surely hate to be without one in summer.

Sometimes a heavy chain works to prevent that.

I have bats that hang out under my Gazebo by the pool(took me a bit to figure out why a rat pooped in the same spot every night:rofl: )
There is a good colony of them now and they are safe from the rat snakes that I often see on the ledger sniffing them out - they can't climb upside down to their hanging spots.
Contemplated a box for them but the snakes would have a field day in those

Some days they get out and fly squeaking around the yard but between my skeeter bucket method and them I rarely see a mosquito in the middle of heavy woods

Place shallow buckets of rain water around your property during the spring months when skeeters first appear.
Monitor every few days for larvae and pour them on hot asphalt, refill and continue the process through the beginning breeding cycles.
Nip the early reproduction stage and you'll have way fewer throughout the year

Non-eco friendly way on a big property dig holes with a backhoe/shovel to hold water, when larvae appear a sip of used motor oil will prevent them from hatching out.
