I'm currently setting 2 glass pyrex dishes on top of the stove. The dishes need water added daily. Anyone else do this?

I'm thinking about swapping out the glass for a decorative copper container maybe to prevent breakage. That scares me about having a bunch of water flowing all over the stove and cracking stones.

same here, I run a humidifier 24/7. I have 2200 sq ft and it goes through 6 gl/day. Used to use a steamer on the stove top, ended up being more trouble than it was worth

Humidifier in the upstairs living room above the stove room goes through 4 gal a day. Small one in the bedroom at night. I would like to get a bigger one but have not yet.

My 'whole house' humidifier is a cabinet style from sears. It does a good job, considering my wifes poor nose is taking beating so far (bloody noses from being so dry). The house stays at about 25-30%

Cabinet style is what I have been thinking about. My wife has the same issue, I feel sorry for her but I like to keep it hot in here for her or maybe that's for me as my signature line states.

Not sure what to say to that. Dressed is good and breathing ok, undressed is also good but then the fun is over in short time. I vote for the humidifier and occasional 'out of water' situations

Just having fun Oslo......I do my very best to take care of my bride. The saying on my signature came from my late father in law. He used to joke that I kept it hot in here to keep her barely dressed.

Did the pot on stove for a while. Stove stores have some nice ones.
Now 2 humidifiers running, going thru 3 gallons + a day.
Stove didn't add much compared to the humidifiers & the pot had lots of scale left behind.

I have the same issues when it's dry,
dry itchy sinuses & occasional bloody nose.
25 to 30% is about all I can get.

I need to look into one of the whole house ones,
We're filling the two we have now daily.

Thanks guys. I will get a real humidifier then. I agree about the scales on the side of the glass. It's hard to get off.

We have been running the stove top one. On the Lopi it wouldn't get hot enough to do much, but with the King we can go through 4 pots in a day.

I clean my porcelain cast iron dutch oven with baking soda and warm water.. Works fine and doesn't scratch the porcelain..

I don't know sq ft but I just 780 ft of hard wood floors in kitchen; TV room and hallways last month; the house has three bedrooms; couple water closets and a front room and it's only heated by that wood stove :)

But more important is I have a barn to work in and a wood shed behide it :)

Right where I want to be.
We have an old canning pot that I commandeered for humidifying duty.
I usually fill it with about 2 gallons/day and it keeps the house about 30%.
Before this, I had a hard time keeping the house about 25%, and my wife complained about how dry the house was. She still thinks so, but it's better.

    I'm definitely considering that. Whew! < 10%

No wonder my eyes are dry all winter and my skin is chapped
