I mean Tim, they are both so old I would still like to sanitize even though we are hauling city water.

I don't claim any expertise, but I don't like the idea of putting the "waste" back into the cistern. My thinking is that if the waste is put back into the cistern, you will have an ever-increasing concentration of solids there.

Use it as greywater, or use it elsewhere in the house, but don't put it back into the cistern.

Wouldn't the dissolved solids only build up if it was a closed system? Being that she is constantly sending water down the drain (shower/toilet/sinks) and replacing it with fresh city water, I would think the increase in DS from the RO filter discharge would be negligible.

The only picture I see in this thread showed an RO installed under sink. That is a good place for the filters and the RO but run the tubing to that corner cabinet that you have so much trouble reaching into and install the tank there. It leaves the space under the sink wide open and you will never miss that cabinet space because you really can't use it anyway.

    That's how I see it.

I've been running rodi systems for years with my fish tanks, and that is all I can see as an issue. So, not really an issue.

True, I was thinking like it was a closed system. I forgot that the portion going through the RO is a small portion of the total. Good catch.

Not if you drink 2-3 gallons of water per day like I do.

I got a Berkey water system recently and I really like it. Water tastes a little more alkaline which I have heard is good for your overall health.

Since we put this in 2015 I needed to replace the filters. The ones I was sent according to my model number and that matched the paperwork from Newegg was different than what was on there originally. It turns out I had an alkaline membrane despite model # and paperwork so the replacement filters kit was different. It has not run correctly since. I retraced my lines, called tech support for help, even uninstalled it and reinstalled the entire system. No luck. It runs like the 44psi from our cistern pump, obviously the membrane is not doing it's job. (no, the membrane is no by passed). I've been using it as is, it still goes through 3 cartridges, sediment, fine sediment and carbon. :picard: And yes, I was accustomed to the alkaline membrane and liked that taste better. I too drink A LOT of water too.
