What are y'all working on today?

The constant rain here is causing me slow progress on a deck project off the back of the garage. Working "smart" using 4x4s to hold a second "outer" 2x10 header board up tight to the rafters while I drilled and bolted it to the first "inner" one. Only way to go when your working alone!

I did screw up and had a 16' 4x6" treated post fall on top of me the other day pulling it back up out of a 4' hole. I was cutting them to 14', made the first cut through with a circular saw, forgot to flip it over and cut it through the other side. Dropped it in the hole fine only to stand back and realize I screwed up and was going to have to pull that sucker back out and finish the cut. Bent way down with good form and lifted that 16' baby back out, only to have it tilt too much towards me and lost it................ went right over backwards with the post coming right down on top of me!!! At 60 I was lucky to only end up with a light bruise on my arm and scratches on a thigh.

Moral of the story that every firewood hoarder should know ........................ should have used one of my chainsaws to rough cut right through that post to begin with, not my circular saw!!

 

They can't be original if they are fronts. The most I've ever seen was 80k from fronts, and 120k from rear pads.

 

Took out a small, leaning white oak for the woodpile today. Not a whole lot of BTU's, but it was in bad shape and needed to go.

 

I worked on my tan and emptying beers on the lake. I'll be back at it tomorrow.

 

We had a neighborhood Yard Sale this morning. Further reinforcing my dislike of the public in general, and serious cheapskates in specific.
Even with my overt sarcasm, and occasional injurious comments, we still cleared $220.

One of my finer moments without my better half within earshot.
We had some nice ceramics that originally cost between $15-20(price stickers still on the bottom), marked for $3.00 each.
A lady asked, "would you take $1 for each of them?"
To which I replied, "ma'am, for only $1 each, I'd sooner take them up the canyon and use them as shooting targets".
Needless to say, she left empty handed.

I cut my grass Friday evening after work. That way I could enjoy Saturday and Sunday without having to think about mowing the lawn.

 

A friend of mine sent me a Poulan Pro 505 a while back. Some borrowed parts from another saw, and some TLC and she is alive. Very alive! I see myself getting a lot of use out of this one, it's a real treat to run. I have a few odds and ends I need to take care of, but it is a good running solid ol' saw.

Went to our nieces 4th birthday party at the park today, good time had by all. While on my turn a kid-o watcher I noticed this...


Then all I could think was "do I know any one in parks and recs?"

Did you just start whittlin' away one day and figure out you had some talent? Pretty slick, I can make some mean mashed potato scultpures...

 

Thanks man, hard for me to appreciate my own stuff. Pics dont do most of them justice (being in 2d), but ya I did just start doing it one day. It was kind of a collision of two hobbies. I have always enjoyed engines and mechanical stuff (got me into saws) and art (airbrushing, painting, sketching, etc). I dont feel like I put enough time into it that I need to, but that is all changing in short order. I have to pic up a load of logs here in a week or two, and am going to make it an evening ritual.

I sold this '62 last year, but I do not think one of these is in the cards.



The red '63 would be the one to own, it has an Avanti R-1 engine. I will try to help her sell them, she also has a '65 Corvair convertible and a '32 Hudson.





If someone needs a blast cabinet, the one behind the Hudson is for sale. Never been used, $100.

 

Saw recently on the news where a tree had come down on some kids at a park ....................... better see about dealing with that hazardous situation ASAP!

It always amazes me how talented the membership of this place is! You guys do some fantastic work!

I have no idea what I'll end up doing with these, but we have about 30 little oaks that I transplanted from the little acorn starter containers today. I ran out of small single pots so I used some of my wife's bigger flower pots..lol..

That's my contribution. Transplanting 6" tall trees.
