Well, I can tell you that the box the saw came in started in Tennessee, then made its way to Michigan, then on to New York, then Pennsylvania. That box has housed a MMms460, then a MMms362cmr, and finally an 036! Wonder where it'll end up next? And what it will have in it?
That box will have traveled a few miles in its life. More than most boxes even dream about... That's not even including the precious cargo that's it protected... That box should be held in the FHC Hall of Fame... When it's ready to retire....
It seems boxes like that happen in this hobby. Especially if they go to Tenn.. I guess DexterDay can say what he shipped to Tenn.. to start the journey.
I'd have to go back and look? I've sent several down there and I love those Duck brand boxes from WalMart.
No way! Not yet! I didn't know it had started in TN. It came close to retirement before making the trip to PA - I picked it from the recycling bin. A day later and it would only made it to the curb! You could stencil the FHC logo on the side, and it can be St Boxopher, patron box of traveling FHC chainsaws! Seriously - I have an FHC logo on some tracing paper if you want it - lol.
Too nice to cut up into firewood I know- they don't belong to you! But I'm thinking M.F.A.- Midnight Firewood Acquisition
so you guys that ship alot of saws can you give your .02 on the best way to package a saw for shipment, box size, perferred shipper fedex, ups, usps,
Any help you need? Can be found right here. Walmart sells Duck brand Heavy Duty boxes. They are cheap and worth every penny. I also buy the Duck brand bubble wrap (large roll). You want to kind of build a box, within a box. But the inner box can be loose pieces of cardboard. Just make sure there is some paper or bubble wrap between the box and the piece of cardboard on the inner 4 corners. I normally lay bubble wrap on the bottom, then a peice of cardboard. Then same for the top. So all 6 sides have a couple layers of bubble wrap and cardboard.
My $ .02....... FedEx (typically a few dollars cheaper)(but in my service area, they are terrible to work with) (good tracking up dates) - UPS (good customer service)(a little higher price)(good tracking updates) - USPS ( last resort)(pitiful tracking .... From spot to spot) .... I like our 5 gallon chemical box's from work. I keep them back for "recycling "....they are a heavier box. Pop Bottles/popcorn/news paper as packing material..... Drain oil, drain gas. Pull start and run fuel out. Wrap in plastic bag. Plenty of tape.. That ought to get you started...
shipping the power head seems pretty straight fwd, what do you do if you include the B&C? obviously requires a bigger box/thus higher shipping charges.
Bars up to 20" aren't bad. Sheet of cardboard over the power head and the bar lays diagonally on top. Long bars are a real pain in the arse. I've cut a slit in the box, let the nose hang out and then build an "addition" on the front to enclose everything.
