Nothing gets past a good "watchdog".
Doesn't matter the size or demeanor of the dog as long as it alerts you to potential danger.
I don't "teach" my guys to bark. I praise them if they bark at something coming up the driveway, then make them calm down and use the visitor for training the dog to sit or stay or down. No over excitement allowed.

Meet Jake, a.k.a. "Lambchop" our newest foster, all 5.5#'s of him. He was found abandoned and sleeping in the middle of a street in
downtown Baltimore. A trip to our vet today gives him a clean bill of health, except that he is a million years old, blind as a bat, mostly deaf and only has 3 teeth. Pretty much just like all of our recent foster dogs. He's a lover and needs a great home if any of you are interested.

Your wife must be very forgiving, no way dogs would be allowed on new furniture (while we're home is the funny part)

Actually, we really don't have room for him right now. We have a "biter" that really needs a lot of our attention, and three others to take care of already. Jake is just an old dude who needs a quiet, loving place to chill out.

Mama Tully went in for xrays in her pre whelp exam. Doc says she has 9, possibly 10 puppies in her. She is due this Saturday.

    Keep your fingers crossed guys....:)

Oh boy, that is going to be a lot of fun. Have you experienced this before? I wish I could have had that experience with one of my labs but the situation here isn't right for that. Our fancy cat had kittens last fall and we were not able to part with them. Had all the animals neutered to keep things in check.
Please post a lot of pictures of them. Love seeing momma dogs with their pups.

Right where I want to be.
After our Lab girl had a litter and they got old enough, she would hang toys (AKA, errant socks:picard:) over the edge of the box we kept the pups in. She was teaching them to play.
We never had another dog that did that.
I have to say though, that after about 4 weeks or so, she all but lost interest in keeping the box "cleaned up", which left that chore to us.....which was fun. Not.

The only time we had a foray into breeding was unintentional.
Our female Chihuahua Bootsie(first time in heat) we kept a watchful eye on her but somehow Tagalong (the first crazy male Chihuahua we had) snuck into the house while we had all the dogs outside basking in a warm February afternoon. Out of no where two dogs I'd never seen before showed up in the yard and BillyBob started getting irritated with them, so we put Bootsie back inside, heard yelps from the house and found she and Tag hooked up - I grabbed his thing to get them apart but the deed was done...

She had two beautifully colored pups (one chocolate one blonde)that both died on the way out - she was too small to be having them
Couldn't go through that again she's the little buckskin on the left, Mickey(later male that lost his battle with predators) on the right

:hair::hair: Both dogs sprayed by a skunk again :hair::hair: Isn't this about the same time as last year too? Why is skunk out during the day in the heat?

That bugger apparently visits a shed in the summer here :headbang::picard::startled: Abandonded shed, here when we moved. Sturdy and usuable, but we do not need it and it blocks my view of the mountains. Tried to give it away, a few bites on reclaimed barnwood. SIGH..... WildWildWest is ready to take his chainsaw to it tomorrow.

try using a match! If it isn't dry or windy, it will go away and you will have your view back. (without the skunk)

We are just getting a pup from Tully, provided she has 4 males. Tully is the mom, owned by a small breeder in the north woods of Wisconsin.

It looks like a definite possibility.
