So..to get all that sweet oak, I told him I would take the limbs and some Poplar rounds..the 359 didn't even work up a sweat! Slowly my stacks are coming back...
No doubt. I have a ton of tulip that goes up like nitro glycerin in the fire pit. Seems like a great kindling/mix wood..
Southern Poplar is a great kindling/SS wood. splits easy dries fast and leaves a good bit of ash, great 1/4-1/2cord addition to anyone's stack
Maybe I need to look more often, but the good scores on CL here seem few and far between... Yep. Oak will dry in 3 months down there.
I don't envy you guys that have to wait even a year, let alone 3, to dry your stacks. Last year I was able to take standing red oak to 20% in about 7-8 months! I have one stack at my work that got to 16%, mainly by getting 8+ hours direct sunlight a day, and is on concrete so it really cooked!
I got really lucky last year with that load of red oak...a guy had 2 roughly 75' trees taken down, put it up and I was the first to get there. These were about 30" diam and long straight trunks. I told him I would take as much as I could, and he went ahead took down the post and I cut there practically every day for about 6 weeks. I got probably 5 or more cord, and it was the perfect setup, drove right up, tops were gone and he was in no hurry! This year has been better in the last 2 months than earlier.
