Sorry I haven't been hanging around here much lately. I've been pretty busy with non-firewood stuff, and I just needed to unplug for a little while.

I hit it pretty hard this weekend, so I wanted to share some pics. :)

I split up about a face cord of red maple Saturday morning. Got to try out my favorite new toy - I'm using that hookaroon for everything now. An extra 30" of reach turns out to be really handy.

I was having so much fun with it, I decided to try it out fetching a few loads of the locust from my "hidden treasure" score. Got close to a cord of that out of the woods, before my BIL called...

    IMG_2837.JPG IMG_2839.JPG IMG_2876.JPG

So I loaded up my milling stuff and headed over to my sister's place. Made up a pretty cool pair of 8/4 live edge walnut slabs, before the chain needed sharpening.

    IMG_2841.JPG IMG_2842.JPG

I worked on some chains today - I re-filed 2 more 28" chains for milling - I had meant to do it before going to my sister's this weekend, but I didn't get around to it this week. I'll have 3 chains ready to go for the next time.

Then I went to my other neighbor's house, and cut up a 3' norway maple trunk that's been in their yard since last year. I'm going to drop a couple of spruce trees for them too. No pics of that - only proof I have is a bit of blood and sawdust on the 660... :dex:

Eventually I'll have some time here to get caught up! :)

I couldn't agree more Shawn Curry about your 30" hookaroon. I've even used it as a branch hook, to lift em up to where I can grab em without any bending at all. Better'n a jug of Ibuprofen... ;)

Looks like you got a lot done this weekend...

I gave these first 2 slabs to my BIL. Not sure what they're gonna be yet, we both had lots of ideas. They're almost furniture right now - all you need to do is slap a couple legs under there and display them. :)

Good looking slabs for sure! I'd really like to make some end tables with slabs like that. Need to finish the ceiling sheeting and trim in my cabin first.

For sure you will find many uses for the hookaroon or pickaroon. That 30" can make a huge difference. You will soon wonder how you got along without it.

You definitely had a busy weekend!

Nice work, great looking slabs, too:D:binoculars:
Guess you got the recoil fixed up the 660? I know it was slightly heartbreaking at the GTG!

Hey Shawn Curry wanted to let you know as sap and other marring occur on the hookaroon/pickaroon and it gets sticky and not as crisp, #000 steel wool is all you need to get it slick and shining like a new dime-its seems to help performance-soon you will be picking up splits placing them right where you want them on the stack with a flick of the wrist...just fyi
