For inquiring minds,  The stuff behind the tank is a plank of wood on the sill of a previously exterior window (f0yer addition by old owner). The window is now removed and at some point in time there will be more shelves . The purple blurs on near the top are aerator bubbles colored funny by my camera :)

Yellow bottle on bottom left is the culprit.

:picard:Well meaning husband that does all my shopping for me came home with new fish tonight..... Rainbow shark, platy, pleco. I had planned on rainbows or kribensis, one species tank......... Felt bad, guess the place is in pretty bad shape, dirty tanks, they will be happier here. Oh well, lil one should enjoy them either way.

I have always like the platy and the pleco (if it is what I think it is?) is a great tank cleaner.

I had one grow to about 12 or so inches. It was cleaning a large tank of goldfish so it had lots to eat.

Not sure if I mentioned it, tank crystal clear now. Running 1/2 undergravel plate via the canister filter, and aerator + sterilizer on other side. Filtration likely too strong for new fish, I will make some adjustments :)

Horkn and Gasifier , I really have the fish fun bug again!! Going for a species tank. I had some HUGE gold severums, boy did they put on a show, but I keep leaning towards an all Rainbows tank.....

I had to move the big tank to get the stove and sectional in the great room. Unfortunately the great room is the only room big enough in the house to put the tank or the sectional. And since two walls are occupied, 1 by the big hearth and the other by windows (would be ok for couch but not tank) I didn't have a whole lot of choice in arrangement!

The room is still a mess, and the aquariums stand is still not complete, so no finished pics yet. Heck I'm still debating on trying to sell the tank - had someone with some interest but it's hard to let go. I'd have it up and running if it weren't for time, plus questioning the energy usage now I'm trying to live more 'green'. Still thinking perhaps a simple rock and driftwood landscape with some fancy goldfish in unheated and fairly low light level tank might be easy to do, more energy efficient, and still pretty to look at. I had some Shebunkins years ago and really liked them.

Anyhow, so it came time to move the beast and even though I was able to get the 500+ lb Ideal Steel into the house and on the hearth by myself I couldn't effectively move the tank solo. Carpet sliders seemed like they'd work, but I could barely lift one end up enough to get the sliders in, but when I did I could not spare a leg to coax them underneath. I took the ends off to expose the structure and ended up using the farm jack!

Had to be careful once it was up a bit since it gets wobbly, but was able to get carpet sliders under. That wasn't quite enough as the weight still pushed em hard into the carpet and the 8 foot length still dragged against the carpet. So I lifted one end up higher and put a piece of 2x4 under for extra height and then sliders. That worked better. It still wanted to bunch up the carpet in front of the tank, but some extra movements near the end flattened everything back out.

I have my opportunity for new fish!!

    Which do you like

Species tank rainbowfish (live plants too much for me, they would be plastic)......
    Species tank peaceful south americans
    Species tank kribensis
I have even considered endlers and other guppy things, but I think my current is too strong.

My vote would be for red-shoulder Severums. Mix in some tetras, maybe cardinals or rummy noses. Was always a huge fan of German Blue Rams and Bolivian rams too. Absolutely stunning fish, and nice personality too. How big of a tank do you have? I'd love to have a SA or Amazon style tank, but my well water is waaaaaay too hard to even think about it, and I don't have the time or energy to mess with adjusting water parameters.

Hi and Thanks!! I am partial to severums  the ones I have had in the past were friendly and total hams, and it should be a good show for my kiddo!!

Tank is 55 gal. I have been looking here , SA's about 1/3 down the page.Fish

Do you have any online sources for driftwood?
