I think it is certainly an increasing trend. In the last year, I've had 2 close friends sincerely inquire and investigate heating with wood. One ended up moving to a new house that has a Kodiak woodstove which he had inspected, flue cleaned and will begin processing wood. He asked to buy some wood from me to get started (but that is another story). The other friend went to purchase an insert, had a person come out to his house, but ran into some clearance issues w/his fireplace and chase. He's still pursuing it though.

    Increasing trend here.
Stove shop here selling lots of new stoves.
State & federal incentives help push many folks to upgrade & start using
    wood heat.
Just got a new shipment if their best selling brand in AK.

Wish they would stress the importance of dry wood

Most articles I read are very low in content. Probably because the writers know very little about what they are trying to write about.

For a good time read the comments at the end of the article. Some fairly salient points about wood heating not being totally free, but the rest is just internet manure. My favorite:
Nice homey little article. But now think about the reality. Picture instead of 2.5 million heating with wood, how about 40 million? 40 million homes beltching out smoke and soot. My God! We would look like 1950's Pittsburgh! I think we had best look in another direction

Egads, I didn't know until that article how much more propane heating is than electric. We heat with propane (well, between stove burns). Reminded me that we have to put more effort into running the wood heater. Thanks for the link.

Our local natgas supplier put an announcement out yesterday that there is no need to worry, they have plenty of gas. Sounds like a bunch of gas goofs were worried because of the exceedingly cold temps so far this year.
