My dad & I cut some trees & made some lumber back in he 90s. After a few years drying, I went back to WV & planed & shipped it to Alaska Made some stuff for my shop. Here's one of my winter project. Work bench. Base Cut lots of boards to 2-1/2 " & did a lot of glueing.

For sure, Dave knows what he's doing. Seems as though you put some of these up on "another "site. Glad to see you've got 'em here too. Nice job on the glue-up. Did you cut the bench dog slots before the glue-up or after somehow? N/M, I see the pic now....duh. I see you alternated top to bottom on the clamps and used cauls too. Question though, how did you cut the end cap splines and grooves? Never seen that before. Just very nice work, Dave. Uh, more pics?
Fully realizing that I'm derailing the thread, how do you like that planer? I'm in the market for one and have been looking for something used and not much is turning up. Most of the "not on their deathbed" ones that turn up at auction and on CL all require 480VAC3PH power and that ain't gonna happen. I'm about ready to throw in the towel and buy on similar to that, but don't want to regret having bough too small of machine.
I use it a lot, third set of blades in it. for what I do, it works. A good home owner, hobby planer IMO. Dad had a big 3hp Bell-Saw one that was 230 single phase.
Router & a jig mounted to the bench top to make the tongue, table saw the grove. That joint just got glue on the far end, so the wood can move. The Davetail keys hold the end cap aprons in place & allow the top to move The bench top has actually grew (swelled) about 1/16" since I built it. A wood top that big will move, better build it so it can or it'll split or break something, it's gonna move. Been used a lot, nicks & scratches all over it. I use the front vise the most.
lukem, if you can swing it, get yourself a 15" instead of the tabletop models. It's on my wishlist. I bought a Delta 12" table model back in '94, and kick myself for it. It works and does a decent job, but I'd rather have the bigger machine. I guess it depends on the use planned.
I have two good sized cherry trees I haven't cut down for firewood ( need to go, too ) just because of posts/threads like these. I so wish I had a bandsaw mill. Then I'd cut them down.
