Lately I've been working on that "motherload" of oak I posted recently, but couldn't resist looking on CL...and scored a couple loads of red oak from a homeowner. Had to chunk them up to lift into the truck, but it was worth it! As you might notice in the background, my stacks are coming back strong! DSCF1014.JPG DSCF1016.JPG

Nothing like red oak to split...not many knots so far..I have found that the wetter the better for hand splitting!

Yep, Red Oak gets a bit tougher as it dries out.

Its funny...I can go weeks without anything good (I check every day), and then its like BAM and I get 2-3 in a row! Lots of high end subdivisions around here (not mine!) and people have learned to save the removal fee and just put it up on CL.

Yup same with me too.Sometimes nothing but brush or garbage for a month, then finally the good stuff.

One thing I've learned over the years is that being patient can really pay off. Have been quite a few really good ones on CL since early April, including at least 4 from my tree service contact. But I'm pretty much out of extra space now until November or so.So I've not responded to any of them.

Have noticed that others seem to be finally getting smart now & grabbing the stuff quickly to have for fall/late winter/next year. Most of the ads are deleted within 24 hours, that never used to happen in Spring/Summer around here.

Yes, I've noticed that too. Even the "hoodlogs" are quickly being deleted. I'm trying to stay warm in winter, not worry about getting shot, beat, or mugged.
