Nice splitter HD. Couple of tips, extend the ram all the way and it will balance much better when your moving it around the yard or even hooking it up to the tractor. Another thing is I would be very careful when/if you loan out it to your neighbors. Before you know it it will be in another county being " borrowed" over and over again. I have the same splitter just older and I won't hook it up to the truck and drive it somewhere if needed. It goes into the trailer, I don't have alot of faith in the axles holding up 45 mph down the road and bouncing all over on our Michigan roads!
I agree there wishlist. I remember going 55 mph once and being passed big time by a pickup and a splitter was being pulled by it. The guy could not see it but if he could have, he probably would have slowed down!
try extending the wedge before shutting it down and hooking up, it makes a world of difference on CG with my splitter. Just don't transport OTR or store extended
I can't feel the splitter hooked to my 74 chevy have to put a piece of PVC on the actuator to see it for backing up. Hooked to my new(er) 2009 Chevy I can feel it back there
That's a good idea extending the Ram, I think I will go ahead and for 20 bucks put on a swing back wheel jack Too. I will probably never tow anywhere when I went to pick it up I didn't even give it a second thought, just hooked up the trailer. I don't like the idea of towing something I can't see back there anyway When I got there the guy said you know you can tow that and I said yes I know but I would rather do it this way. My neighbors don't burn wood so I don't think anyone will be asking to borrow it , I would probably say no anyway, but that would depend on the person also. I only know 1 neighbor the one closest to me So far I love it, it is faster than the 7 ton electric, because I don't have to worry about reading the grain or positioning the wood just so, just throw it on and split it. The 7 ton electric has done a good job for me but it just won't go vertical
Looks like you've got a great new tool there HDRock . I think your thoughts on trailering vs pulling are really good ones. I've rented splitters and have pulled them all, after being told that's how they always go down the road. I couldn't believe it would even have an engine still attached after slamming into some of Maine's best potholes. With a hardtail design, the thing just about flips over! Dammm it really pounds the h*ll out of them. When I take my splitter up to the cabin, I'm going to lift it into the back of the truck and use it right there in vert mode off the tailgate. I'll wait until my 2 younger and stronger sons can be there... I've discovered picking the rounds up is easier using 2son lifts...
