    ;)

Just kiddin, I already had the milk crate.
New to me is this puppy, I got it off craigslist today :D:axe::rootintootin:

I took a pic of the pile of splits and the log catcher installed on the splitter but it didn't take I guess .
Is cotton wood normally stringy as hell ??

There's been some nice off season splitter deals recently.

    It looks really nice.

Looks brand new---hope you got it sweet-One thing I like for sure is that handle on the tongue---my new Cub doesnt have one and it is not easy to move around once off the concrete---what kind of engine is on it?

Should be a great splitter for you. I ran a 25 ton Huskee for about 15 years.
Only problem I ever had was a flat tire... Probably my fault, trailing to fast.
    Added a spare tire.
Cottonwood can be very stringy. Heavy when wet & LIGHT when dry.
    Burns hot & fast.

Briggs and Stratton engine, it's less than 2 years old
The guy said he only used it 4 times and I believe it, he had less than a third of a cord of wood by his garage.
He thought he was going to get a lot of wood from his tree service buddy but never got any, so, decided he should sell it because he didn't use it.

The handle is nice I guess but I thought this thing would be better balanced then it is. its heavy

Great score. Just cant afford to pull the trigger on one. Can rent a 32 ton from local rental place for 75 bucks for a full weekend. And if it breaks down he brings me another one. Rent 2 or 3 times a season. Cost effective for me.

Yeah I had a couple of large ones there I split up vertically just because I could after that I put it horizontal and did the rest, but I have some big white oak I will be busting up vertically

    Nothing wrong with that.

Nice addition to your "ever growing", wood gathering tool box !

    Cottonwood here not very stringy
    Usually splits easy.

the Cottonwood was like a yard bird so maybe that's why it is so stringy.
How hot is the cylinder on the splitter supposed to get?
I could hold my hand on it

That would be about right HDRock-shouldn't be any warmer than that-and my latest "yardbird" maple was tougher than woodpecker lips

That is a great rental rate. I've been checking and have not found anything that good here. I just can't pull the trigger and buy one; I've decided I need to rent one first and give it a try. Getting too hot here, so will likely rent one this fall and give the hydraulic club a test drive to see if I want to become a full time member.

I have my buddies 20 ton mtd at the house. I cut a crap load of wood and it is nice to have. He has an outdoor burner so he gets all the uglies and I cut a lot of his wood. This way I can keep his splitter here in the garage and use it when I need it. If he takes it back I will have to get my own!

The harder you work it the hotter it'll get.
It's oil, so it can get pretty hot (300° range) & still be OK.
Friction thru the pump & valve generate heat.
Mine was pretty warm (120° maybe, so 100° raise in temp over ambient) after a couple cords last Oct, but it was 20° out.
It has a pretty big tank, so should have no problems of overheating.

    With age comes wisdom.....:eek::thumbs:
    But you ain't aged....

My Champion 22T gets to pretty hot if I run it for more than an hour or so... Depends too on what I'm splitting- tougher, stringier, knotty stuff gets things cooking quick in the warmer months- even had some foaming outta the tank cap a few times- shut it down and cool myself off with some stacking.... of empty cans!

Cottonwood will be stringy at time while others won't be stringy at all. You take what you get there.

That thing does look like new. Nice find HD.
