A few months ago I bought a tool kit, they are hot pink in color (breast cancer awareness). It came with a hammer, pliers, measuring tape, box cutter, screwdriver with interchangeable bits, and all the common allen wrenches and rachet thingies among other useful stuff... Since we moved 1.5 years ago, our assortment of tools in the garage has been in disarray, most of them not in the designated places. For a while now the tools I seem to need are either in his truck or my truck (take your pick whatever truck he drove that day LOL) or amid remodel chaos where one might be lucky to locate it Every time WildWildWest has needed one I pull out my hot pink kit. He likes to keep the commonly used tools in a certain box above his armoir. Guess where most the hot pink tools are now?
Sounds about right. Shop has every tool in the book but in the house it's slim pickins. If I can't find what I need I ask hurricane Audrey. She always has my back. And at 10, she really knows her way around her tool box.
Pink tools missing, that's mostly your fault I'd guess WW. And here's why.... I set my wife up with a nice set of tools a while back, all pink handled. She had her set, I had everything else. (I got tired of her using ring spreaders as nail pullers) When I've been in a tight spot and needed something, she hands me something with a pink handle. She knows the tools. And now I'm accustomed to using a hammer with a pink handle. Or pliers, dikes, wrench, whatever. Not my fault, and if I have sunglasses on, they look "Bikini Tan", so a plus.....heh, heh, heh,....
I inherited Dad's tools; the reason was that I would be the one at home fixing things. The "women toolkits" are OK I guess but I find them a bit silly (outside the ones that are trying to raise funds for breast cancer awareness of course). I am the only one here, so if a tool can not be found it is my fault; I can see where in a home with two having separate toolkits can reduce the "Honey, I can not find my <insert tool name here>, did you use it?" I remember Dad giving me a ratchet and socket set one year so that I would not keep borrowing his tools.
Well I must give my $.02 here. I must have 20 utility knives and about 150 blades of all types in about a dozen different places. I have one that goes with me in the truck. Which one do you suspect "The Norwegian" to grab when she needs one? The one in the truck. So, this morning working on one of the rentals and looking for my utility knife in the truck, can't find it. So, over lunch here I text her, "Where's my utility knife that I keep in the truck, did you borrow it?" Just got a text back - Laundry room counter.. I got to have at least 19 others all over the place there. I love her dearly but she has got to put it back when she borrows it.
Same here but in reverse. Now some of my hot pink tools are riding with him in his truck OH! And I also ordered a women's box cutter. It's bright blue, and ergonomic for smaller hands, and extra blades..... That is in his stash too Guess you need to pick up box cutter #20 for the rest of your day?
WTG Dad!! it says alot that she knows how to use them, and for your you and her! She will teach him in time how to use them ,
Not always, my sister has not been able to teach my brother-in-law a thing. My dad was a carpenter and she "got it" but married a great guy that doesn't have it.
I was always helping Dad do things, carpentry, plumbing, auto mechanics. When I was very young I would help Dad by handing tools so he could save time. I learned all the spanner sizes and such; of course now just about all mechanical stuff uses metric but it was a good way to learn fractions.
