How does stepping in and out of the shed work? I hope to build one this year and trying to figure out if I want to elevate the floor. Not sure my knees will enjoy it too much in 10 years or so.

Its 13.5" off the ground, I have no issues-you have the 4x4 post and 2x4 row stops if you need a hand hold to step up-I really feel that all that air from the bottom really helps with drying rdust, but thats just my thinking-I'm just a wood hoarder though...my prevailing wind is from the west so by shadow boarding the ends and facing south like I said, it dries gooder

bogydave -IDK sir-I figure 10 stacks @ 8' long, 6' high, 16-18" long splits-I think 6.5-7 cords-Im sure someone here can do the math---not my strong point-I'm a wood hoarder and political scientist, among other things...:loco:

Plus the uglies btwn the stacks @ approx.. 4' high....I'd say 5 bays with 4' of uglies ought to push it maybe 3/4 cord???

Eric VW I was near you yesterday-played Old White @ the Greenbrier---my, my, how the other half lives...but they don't have my wood---those rich folks would and do pay big bucks for our labor...

rdust, with your place being a tad wet, methinks the height would be good for the wood. As for the body, you can build short steps or even an incline. Terrible to have bad knees. My wife got a replacement for one but says she'll never have the other one done. It works and less pain but cuts down a bit on mobility. Much more so than with replaced hips.

I have no idea what happened above, but I did suggest adjusting that splitter! Just look that each piece has to be picked up then also moved to the splitter. Nasty work for he back.

6' tall x 8' long x 16" is a half cord exactly for each row. So ten rows= 5 cords. 18" rows will add a little more.

Use this calculator. It makes it easy.

Thank you Horkn my friend-so with uglies thrown in between the stacks loosely @ 4' high x 5 bays I'm prob close to 6 cord in the shed plus the pallets up the field for 16'-17'-my Fireview will handle 20" but I try to cut close to 16" as a rule...think I'm gonna fill the last 2 bays with ash...
