We had a different variety of those at my previous home, I thought thier song was the prettiest to hear.
I used to grease the pole that the feeders hang on to keep the squirrels and coons off, now I...well, they just don't live around here any more.
I remember it was my Grandfather's sole mission in his retirement years to foil the squirrels from his feeders. I don't mind them getting a bit of seed, helps them through the early stages. These are mostly adolescent squirrels that will be in my belly come fall. it's a good reason for me to get into building a new feeder
pretty tasty if done right and not some old boar squirrel. Not a necessity to hunt them but my Lab/Kerr Billy Bob has it in his DNA and I can't help but let him get the gratification of hunting them. I use a scoped .22 pistol keeps it fun
In the last couple years we have had Eurasian Collared Doves move in. They have not been a pest yet. Anyone have a negative experience with these invasive species.
I remember reading about these a year or so back. We haven't seen any yet, plenty of mourning doves though which can be hilarious to watch sometimes. Doves seem to be the coopers hawk's favorite meal and I 'm sure they'll like the collared ones too.
I like the bigger birds. Eagles, hawks, osprey, wood peckers. Or anything that gets in front of the camera. We have an all white bird near us that we still don't know what it is. We think it could be an albino hawk. don't think its a snowy owl. it been in the same place for about 4-5 years. its along an interstate so its hard to get a picture of it
We've had a pair of hawks that nest behind the pool for several years now - they make a lot of noise and the Crows pester them probably killing the fledglings. The Pileated Woodpeckers are numerous here, sounds like a bunch of monkeys screeching from the tree tops. Owls hooting every evening, you only catch a glimpse of them once in a while swooping across the drive. The Wood Ducks have to be the oddest of large feathered friends we've had here. There is a creek across the street but no major bodies of water within 5miles but they still nest in the tree cavities and bring their ducklings tow down the draws to the water. Confuses the heck out of the dogs
The orlio pics I posted were on the deck I am building. Told ma that the feeder on the rail has to go cuz I'm putting a cap rail on and it can't mount on it....reality is orlios stay pretty regular eating oranges. The feeder is mounted on a tree now.
Thanks guys, I had a 4 am bad dream this morning. I was chasing a tree rat out of a relative's house, only it was a pet. I peed on my shoes and socks in the dream.
We had them in No Colo. When I quit looking in 2011 they were not invasive yet, but the game season was no limit. I have not seen them in WY.
You will not mistake them when you see one...They appeared to me like GIANT robins, only in dove color, and of course a black ring on the neck. The ones we had were not too shy either.
