I see Accuweather has us going down to 27 degrees Friday night.

 

Subject : tomato stakes

I'm thinking of getting some Hemlock branches off a downed tree for stakes, would a Hemlock tomato stake hurt the plant?

We have a nice fire going in the Liberty, feels nice.

 

The deer will most likely get them but we'll give it a try, we'll be putting up a fence.

We have the tomato plant five gallon buckets (6) ready, we put 4 3/8 inch holes in the bottom of the buckets and then added small rocks on the bottom, we then mixed up a bunch of nice bagged dirt we bought with some other stuff (can't remember the name) so we're ready for planting in the buckets tomorrow, we'll add more dirt in the morning before planting.

 

In your opinion Well Seasoned or anyone else do have to harden off plants that were grown in a greenhouse, it did have a clear plastic roof along with the sides.

 

Yeah zap harden your plants a bit by putting them out and moving back indoors if temps will fall below 48-50.
You bought plants that are 4-5weeks along by the size of those pots shouldn't have to fuss much over them just keep moist and sunny

 

Bit the bullet and either it makes it or not but I'm sick of moving stuff in n out. Planted every thing. Red n green peppers grnbeens tamaters cucumbers zucchini peas butter cup squarsh dill.

 

We changed the location of the garden after I took the weed whacker to that area, the area we have it will still get 8 plus hours of sun and the good part, we'll get more afternoon sun.

The tomato plants went outside for 15 minutes and the hot pepper plants are still out there.

 

Yesterday I looked for a bean plant but had no luck so today when I got up I decided on some Yellow Kentucky Wonder Pole beans.

I planted them 1 inch deep with a 4 inch spacing. This is the area we almost put the tomato plants.

I dug down 24 inches and then added the new dirt we bought. The raised bed is 48 inches wide and the white plastic lattice is just under 8 feet.

If they grow good this year we'll go to a 96 inch wide raised bed.

 

By the end of the day Wednesday everything will be done for the garden.

I'm replanting the hot pepper plants in bigger containers.

The tomato plants will be hardened off so those will go outside Wednesday.

 

Well Seasoned , I'm thinking these pots aren't deep enough, what do you think?

 

Pepper plants don't root "deep" they fan out past the drip line kind of like a tree. Don't be discouraged by short plants for a few weeks they are making roots, and snipping blooms early can actually help the plant establish better
Your pots should be fine for a short growing season and will give you the ability to move in/out towards the end of the season.
If you have a good sunny window you might even be able to keep them going indoors.
as for fertilizer a couple teaspoons of 10-10-10(keep away from the stalk) and watered in every 2-3weeks will work

My plants get to be hard almost woody stalks by the end of the season and I harvest the last batch right before a frost

 

I finally picked up some landscaping fabric to go over the pole beans, the black piece of fabric I had over it didn't let in enough sun but we do have one that is coming up.

The tomato plants are on the last day of hardening off so tomorrow will be the day they finally get put outside .

 

We planted the pole beans 3 days ago, we have our first sprout.

I came back from a ride through the woods, when I came back we had a turkey around that area.
