WildWildWest painted the entry room in the big chip, looks great! Think it's too dark for our large room ? (same room is both kitchen and living room).
Not so big on brown, but-- What room is it for? How much light does it get? How much furniture/fixtures are there, and what colors are they?
Large room, that is both living room and kitchen. Couple wood furniture pieces in dark cherry, sectional sofa chocolate brown. Kitchen counter tops i will attach another pic...(a bit less red in real life). Hubby at some point in time wants white trim for walls and doors (windows are white vinyl). Room has a wall of 16' x 82" of glass facing south. I want as much light and bright mood as possible. I thought I would go nautical initially, but it's really not my style.
The big sample looks like what we use. We started with it in the kitchen, the first time we painted in there then used it in the hallway and living room and used it again in the kitchen when we remodeled. needles to say, we like it a lot. Ours is a little lighter brown than chocolate ice cream. Really easy on the eyes and not too dark or light.
I picked the first one, just because there is so much beige/brown already. But #2 would be my second choice.
I learned nearly 12 years ago that I am in no way qualified to pick out paint colors, nor comment on paint colors. That just so happens to be how long I've been married. However, I am apparently qualified to apply the chosen paint color, sometimes multiple colors in the same room in the same calendar week. I also learned to keep my mouth shut and not say 'I told you that would look like chit'.
Go light, then darker colors for accents, or an accent wall. Dark days will make you depressed to be in dark rooms. Need to use as much light and light colors. I too like the earth tones.
I learned by experience dark colors only seem to work on TV or in restaurants. The only thing I don't really like, however, is when people paint their entire homes white. I think each room needs its own mood, and frankly, white reminds me of hospitals and apartment complexes. Everyone I know who does like white says they do it because it is a neutral color and goes with everything. Guess they change their furnishings a lot. Not to hijack, but just an anecdote that comes to mind: I had some friends who were trying to pick paint for a home they were renting. After going over hundreds of paint chip cards, my friend's son pointed to some "Oops!" paint at a great discount and said, "Heck, let's make it those colors"!" She agreed, and they had some very interesting walls, but not repulsive at all. Peach, Grey, Mint Green and Yellow, as I recall.
