WildWildWest took our lil one fishing late Sunday morning. A man in a trench coat approached him from 30 yards away after getting out of his truck. He was upset about "Colorado" people up here in Wyoming. Something about "Colorado" people putting nails on the road and leaving dirty diapers , and some fishing, but did not appear to be all there. The stranger never took his hand off his left hip..... After a minute or two of his rambling WildWildWest said, "yep, that's why I pack as he lifted his flannel shirt to expose his "9", you never know who you will run into". The stranger said yes, I carry too, and took the gun out of the trench coat pocket and returned to his truck. Phew, spooky!
Good question BK, all of our stuff has WY plates, trucks, blazer, RV etc. The guy was talking so fast and rambling that one might think drugs were involved...
Wow , good thing WildWildWest was packing . Could have turned out very bad. Glad WWW and baby w are OK
Probably just came back from Boulder with a "supply" and got a flat in F.C. Or.. just another wacko, Wyo. has it's fair share, kinda' why I like it. Glad WWW was prepared, he took the right approach with that guy. It's why I carry 3 guns in the car at all times, people are getting weird.
New detail was shared, apparently campers with Colorado plates were burning pallets on the atv/quad roads, and thats where the nails came from, either way that guys flat tire and fast crazy rambling talk while packing heat is scary.
I'll play Devils advocate. You get dumb-azz Front Rangers coming into your area to play. They want to party, have fun, create a memorable weekend. They normally have little to no consideration for the people that actually live in these areas. They do dumb things and leave the mess for others to clean up. I can cite any number of these instances, and I've been pizzed off to discover them. So I can see the wacko's point. I've even commiserated with another local after discovering the latest offence. Yes, we both were packin' but there was no implied threat on either of our parts. This may sound odd, but if this guy was upset enough to approach DH, maybe not a bad guy to eventually make contact with. Sounds like he cares. Just a thought.
That could have been anywhere. I don't and won't carry a gun, however, I am not offended by those who do. Rather, I am offended by those who would restrict my rights to do so if I were to elect to carry. It is about the same for those of us who have big dogs. Not many people will mess with you if you have a well behaved big dog or two at your side.
Adrenaline can make you wacky also. What was the time frame? I have a story about 2 vehicles going out of an area as I was heading into it. Got to the back and found a un-attended fire roaring away, in a "fire pit". Bye the time I put it out, I had no water, beer, and my bladder was empty. Still had to shovel lots of dirt to smother it. Middle of Arapahoe N.F. I was so pizzed I was probably incoherent by that time. They were probably back in Lakewood by then. Adrenaline can make you wacky. edit- not trying to excuse the guy for his behavior, just saying.
Yes, the man was definately on some kind of a rush, though adrenaline was likely the least of it Fortunate you were able to put out the fire! Guess the nails from burning pallets was last week, the incident was noon on Sunday.
Well,..there you go. Meth? or a displaced anger for Bruce Jenner being so... aww, nevermind... ( I have an ex-relative in Douglas that could fit that profile,..truth.)
Yep...wackos are everywhere. If I lived out where you guys do, I'd be carrying 24-7, with some long gun backup in the truck. I'm guessing Leo response time isn't measured in minutes or seconds out there.
The talk about nails made me think about my travels out to the western states (Colorado, S. Dakota, California, Utah). Everyone takes MUCH better care of the outdoors than in the east. I can fish in just about any stream from Michigan down to Florida and every single time I'll find glass, old tires, beer cans, etc. And on hiking trails I'll see candy wrappers, cigarette lighters, water battles and such. But out west it's always very clean, it seems that nobody litters that much.
The biggest problem with this guy is he would not take his hand out of his pocket containing the gun. The other hand was out the whole time. My gun was holstered and I did not keep my hand on the gun like I was ready to draw. There was know way for me to tell what his hand was doing in the jacket. And it really was not trench coat weather. You may be able to legally conceal in WY but, show some respect, a cop would have told him get your hand out of your pocket now. It was only a hunch he was packing and he was packing. One would think after stating nothing is to good for my little girl and lifting my jacket exposing my piece he would take his hand out and leave it out. It only prompted him to show me he had a gun in that pocket. Just saying I don't walk into someones elses camp or fishing hole with my hand on my firearm, what a dumbazz! It is a sad day in age when WildWest has been trained two types of people enter your camp, those in trouble and those looking for trouble. As for all of us good guys out there others have put us on point
