Hey Smokey, Have you ever been to Morse's Sauerkraut store in Waldoboro, I think? They have a German restaurant there now that you might find interesting. If nothing else, the Kraut is very good.

Think I'll give the furnace a quick cleaning today. No plans to roast any more pellets until fall.

I planted some grass seed last week where I took out an old shed. It's filling in nicely, thanks to the daily rain we've been having. It would be nice to have the humidity drop below 90% for a bit to dry things out.

I'll second the recommendation for Morse's. Very nice, little, but has a lot of good food. Small restaurant, nothing fancy, but the food is yum!

Nope and after looking the menu over it is definitely a place for this bear but the boss wouldn't be happy. I mentioned Morse to the waiter and that I didn't think getting Sauerkraut was all that hard in Maine, they replaced it with onions and peppers which is the only reason we will go back. I have no problems with peppers and onions.

I believe you, but I have to have a reason for the boss to go there as well.

You would think the youngsters would learn something once they exited their teenage years, but looks like at least some in this bunch didn't.

Mowed the back forty and sat down with cold hard cider. Then lunch and a trip for something to grill for supper (Salmon) and a couple of plants. Hopefully they will get the Lowe's outdoor garden center all fixed shortly, how long it will stay fixed will depend on how much snow we get during the winter, flat roofs need a lot more support in the cold country. They at least added a peaked roof but adding side by side peaked roofs creates a little valley issue so them from away may learn another lesson the hard way. But what do I know.

Did you start your own vegetable seedlings? I have to admit, I didn't, and I anticipate that I'll regret it when the diseases start showing up. We are only putting in a few things. Better than last year when we did none at all. oh how I missed those fresh cucumbers and tomatoes. Nothing beats home grown.

We have planted from seed except for the onion and garlic, but the boss didn't start any tomato seedlings.

I will start with the BT spraying shortly to keep the caterpillars and such at bay. Kept down the horn worms the last several years as well as the caterpillars out of the fruit trees. We have a local source for tomatoes and if the new neighbors don't play at farming with the stuff from the stores we might get a full season in this year.

We don't like to lose our tomatoes or cucumbers. Won't likely need a lot of cucumbers this year. This will be a big batch of watermelon pickles and tomato based items year.

Hopefully I won't have to roto till like last year when we added a few yards of composted manure to the garden beds as I can get as much of that stuff as I want after the pile next door has cooked long enough. We will get by on just mixing some dehydrated in as we lightly till during planting. The boss has all of her seeds for this year. Hopefully we will get a bit of rain to really get the grass growing. I'm going to hold off on mowing the other half of the lawn until things are bit wetter in the soil department no need to burn the lawn early.

Has the boy learned about why you keep the chickens in after dark (actually twilight can be bad as well)? Free range doesn't mean unprotected.

it really pays to find a local grower for the seedlings. The imported stuff imports so much more than the seedlings bought. Small wonder we see our gardens fail year after year due to disease imported from away. I don't know if my son has learned anything or not about letting his chicken free range. I told them over and over. But hay, what does an old man know. :BrianK:. His wife is the one who shows the interest. Maybe she will know better next time. (maybe not!)

Did the final cleaning of both stoves yesterday. The fines box on the P43 had a lot more in it than I would have expected. Also took the distribution fan off the P68, cleaned it out thoroughly, and applied some 3-in-1 oil. I will take care of the ESPs and flue cleanings in the fall.

I love Red Lobster.. She hates Seas food. But they don't only serve sea food. So she will go and eat chicken or steak. :D

Only thing that bothered me when we used to go out to eat was waiting for the food, somehow I was always starving back then. Not particular one food or the other, they all are good :)
