thats pretty high, thinking that may be for just the "flat" section of the brisket that has been trimmed away from the point and than sold in a supermarket and marked up. the one I bought is the whole "packer" brisket

    Brisket 101, good reading
    http://www.patiopitmasters.com/brisket.html

No, bought if from a store called cash and carry, similar to Costco / Sams, just on a smaller scale and only sells food and food related items, and no membership fee
    https://www.smartfoodservice.com/

I took this brisket right from the shipping box in the cooler and it had not been weighed, labeled, priced yet, its a Star ranch "choice grade" Angus brisket that sign on wall said was $3.68 per pound, when I took it up to pay kid at register just assumed it was the IBP "select grade" brisket that they had on sale for the $2.99 price and put it on scale and rang it up as that. of course I did not say anything

Brisket is one of my favorite cuts. I'll be making more than a few before the summer's over. Personally not a fan of rubs, as I think that it masks the flavor of the meat, but either way, when that collagen dissolves and oozes into the meat, there's no better beef.

That reminds me - I still have a brisket from the 1/4 cow I bought from the neighbor. I gotta pull that out of the freezer and start getting it ready for my Memorial Day BBQ. I'm going to brine cure it with some pickling spices and make it into pastrami. :)

Good idea! And good price. My son's girlfriend called some time back and said she picked up two briskets for 2.44lb. They will be bringing one home this weekend!
Used to get it for 1.79-1.99 lb.

Yup - 16 pounder. I've got it in a terragon-lemon-pepper brine, with maple syrup used as the sweetener. Smoked turkey cold cuts, for those who might enjoy a bit lighter fare... :)
