NRA life members get $10,000 in life insurance and $2,500 in firearms insurance. As an annual member I get $5,000 in life insurance and $2,500 in firearms insurance. No liability insurance comes with any NRA membership that I am aware of. My retired cop friend is also a lifetime NRA member, and an advanced NRA instructor. He took out a 2 million dollar umbrella policy when he retired from the force, and he recommends a million+ umbrella policy for anyone that is going to carry.

I purchased the S&W Shield in .40 S&W a couple months ago. I really like the gun. Very easy to shoot and easily concealable. I went with the .40 because I already have a larger Beretta in that caliber, and it is more convenient to have bullets that fit both guns.

I got the same gun in the 9. Much more compact than the g26 however I can get my pinky on the glock with the clip extensions, can't with the M&P

Strip it down before you shoot it, they sometimes have too much assembly oil in the internals. It's also good practice, right off-the-bat, to get used to breaking them down.
What type of ammo did you pick up?
Good job, I'm happy for you.

Magtech FMJ, 124 grain. Less than $11 for fitty rounds. Online reviews seemed good.

Magtech makes good stuff I usually shoot the 115gr fodder, and have never had any issues.

Good price. Just picked up 2K of 124 gr. from Freedommunitions, 'bout the same price. My 9's eat them like candy.
Looking forward to a range report.
How's your wife like it? or is this your "baby" ?

This one is mine. She looked at a 20 gauge but it was rusty inside and the pawn shop guy wouldn't budge on the price.

Are you after a particular model for her 20g.?
She might like- Mossberg-SA-20 all purpose, muddy girl- sku# 75786
Only thing I don't like is the 14" LOP-(length of pull). She'd probably like something a bit shorter, that's easy to fix.
Pawn shops- Best luck after Christmas and April 15th. Otherwise, meh...

She looked at a Hercules by Monkey Wards and was really pleased with the length and feel. I need to find the specs on that gun and find her something similar. A Mossberg would be my top choice, though.

Single shot? They are light (a plus) but can kick more than others (a negative). If she isn't comfortable with your 12g. with low base shells, she won't like that single shot with 20g. low base shells either. Check into the Mossberg auto and plan on another $75 for a good recoil pad and a shortened length-of-pull. It will make all the difference. She'll love it.
