I loaned a 60cc 3750 badboy out once to a guy I was working on his saw at time. I had just rebuilt the 3750 reusing the scored piston. Figured get some run time on it to break in new ring etc. Wrong, it got broken in alright. Impulse line had slipped off while he was cutting and the guy was clueless to why it wouldnt run right . So he set it to half choke and got it to run somewhat to continue cutting. Ended up scored up ring etc again. Least the piston wasnt new. I eneded up trading saw off to another Ohio guy and then Mag Craft seen it on bay by new owner. Roger got the saw rebuilt and welded it up where it was cut for bow saw.
No saws are loaned out-happy to do the work for friends and neighbors. I have an old seedeater that I let the neighbors borrow- it's the third trimmer on my depth chart (old coaching lingo there!)
There are a few family/friends I will lend stuff out to,but only the ones I know will take care of it well and know what they're doing.
Neither my husbands saw (I have a small electric one too) nor his time will be loaned out/borrowed. I had a couple rugged looking temporary labor guys at the house years ago and let them use his chainsaw. Hubby was just relieved that they were from an insured agency, he did not know what they did but said the chain was so loose he can't believe noone was hurt. My bad.....
About two years ago i borrowed a small Homelite and used it to cut up some pallets and brush. I knew nothing except for obvious stuff, and after a couple of uses i figured out that the chain needed to be filed sometimes. . I returned it in similar or better condition and included the file kit. I bought my own saw later that year and since then I've learned a lot and cringe at the thought of loaning one of my saws to my former self.
My loaner: My loaner after loaning to brother in law: Next time it will be the bow saw. Lesson learned. Got another case and I'm in the process of the swap.
And the thing is when its brought back...anything just not saws...its usually effed up and just pizzez you off....no more fer me....a buddy borrowed my meat grinder..got it back yesterday....dried meat init...rusty...bullchit..lesson learned.. people just dont care...hell they didnt buy it...rant over
Suppose to be getting a 455 Fri that was loaned to someones family member. Came back messed up. I loaned my ole 3.0 to my dad when I was putting new av's and intake boot on his 3300 after 26years of use. No problems.
He's coming up to fish the opener next weekend, I'll have to ask him about it then. Problem is I like him, he's a good guy. I'm thinking he probably dropped it and didn't notice the damage. I didn't even notice til I got it out off the case to sell...had it sold to a guy here but then I noticed the damage. No way would I send a saw like that unless it was a parts saw, and for very little $. I learned my lesson for sure though.
Bottom left side is a saw I carry in my vehicle all the time. I won't carry the chain saw as a matter of course but sometimes things still need to be cut and that saw works for me.
