Anyone know if there's any tweaks I can do easily and inexpensively for my 290? I don't want to have to really adjust the carb if avoidable, but would love to add a little grunt.

Sell it and use the money to buy a 026/260. Easy and cheap upgrade for any 290 variant.

Any mod you make, will need to adjust the carb. I hate to agree with Mike. But the 290, other than a Muff mod? Is limited. A 260 would have a little more room for improvement.

A Muff mod and carb tune would be about your only option.

You can make it close to a 310-390 with an extreme muffler mods.

If u want to go crazy and do more work than its work get a 390 piston and cylinder and swap it out and a muffler mod. You will eventually have a nodded 390 which will be close to 360 ability, notice I said close! Still heavier.

Thanks guys. Since I already have a more powerful saw, I was just looking for something relatively easy that I could do to boost it a little. I think I'll use it as is, and if I grow tired of it, just sell it. Chances are, I'll just keep it around forever, and use it in the yard or for light duty stuff.

The good thing is they sell used. Folks who don't know think that's stihls good saw. They bring up to $300 used.

Send the muffler out for modding if you don't want to do it yourself and then bring the saw to the get together in the spring and one of us can tune it and show you how.

Heck just bring the whole thing. I won't be there myself but sure someone would do it and show you how on the whole thing. With a dremel/grinder and a drull you can mode that muff in 10 mins after its off.

Unfortunately anything you modify for more power will require carb adjustment. And that means pulling the limiters, modding them as well. None of it is hard, but it is something you need to know how to do if you want the saw to run right with a modded muffler.

If you can live without it for awhile, pull the bar off it and drop it in a box. This topic pops up often enough that we could do a muff mod and re-tune, video the whole thing and it would make a pretty popular vid for Jacks' new Roku channel I think. A couple of you guys have MS290/310/390s right? :D

If you get it here, I'll make sure it gets back to you. ;)

I agree 100% with MasterMech statement above.

More than a few would be happy to do a MM. MasterMech would do a better video (I have a weird hat) ;) I would only do pics.

Man, if we can rewind two days I'd send you mind. But the mufflers already done, unless you want to take it from there?. 362 or 034 work?

I'll have to work on that. Not sure how to ship this thing. Packaging could be reused though on the return to save money and effort.

Don't pack it like there shipping the earthquakes!!!

Put it in a box with bubble wrap plastic peanuts or tons of wadded paper.
