I was supposed to cut the grass, but this seemed like more fun. The pyramid here is the last of the lucky score of 10+ cords of w.ash tree trunks the neighbors were kind enough to have dropped on our lot from clearing their lot for a new house. This bonanza gave a couple of cutting buddies a year each of firewood, two winters' worth for us and two more years in the stacks. Life is good.

All that's left besides these splits are two 5' piles of uglies which I have yet to figure out how to stack. Going to use the uglies because the new IS stove loves white ash in any form. Still, glad that winter is over.

  Feel ya on the firewood vs mowing question... My overly ambitious goal was to have all my stacks refilled before I had to mow. But I'm just "milking" it at this point. :D

Nice work! Feels good to actually accomplish something right! How many cords you figure?

I envy you guys who find Ash just lying around, I can't find any around here, except the Swamp Ash I grabbed from work and that's 30 miles away.

Yeah, heheh, I know it isn't much wood there, but swinging the maul for awhile got this tired worn-out old guy sweatin' and moving and that can't be all bad.
That 'lil heap wouldn't even fill up the back of my Ford Ranger bed - so, maybe 1/5 cord... ?? To me, splitting with a maul is food for the soul.
I just lament that this marks the end of a sweet load dropped right in our lap that kept me and a couple of buddies busy for a long time.

Slow going there, bud- but always churning ideas in my head. I really need to get crackin' on that batch box...
I've been preoccupied with hoarding, a larger solar kiln, and oh yeah my wife and the dogs and work and...... :thumbs:

Oh you split it all too? Yeah duh Shawn there's an axe right there! :picard: Sorry bud... See I have a pile of splits about that size on my porch, that's the last little bit from this year. So that's what I had in mind - you building a mini holz in the yard out of that instead of mowing! That's something I'd do! :wacky:
