No, 6" liners. I've decided to roll the dice and plug in the King where the 30 sits. That chimney, even though it is the shortest of the three, ran the Vigilant very well and the Defiant better than the taller chimney does. Both take 8" liners. Neither had smoke spillage.

I figured if it doesn't work I would still have the 30 as backup if a mid-winter swap is needed. Then resell it for at least what I paid for it and find a used Princess. But, I think the King will be okay in my situation. Have not heard back from the owner, yet.

What a smokin deal if you can get him to ship it. BKs on CL out west dried up pretty quick when it got cold. Kickin myself now for not buying a demo at a shop that had no problem shipping.

I don't have much hope in that stove being available. But give me 12-24 months, and I'll find a deal on a King.

The best thing about stove hunting this time is that there is no rush to make this happen. Previously I knew I had a problem. If I didn't find something soon, I was going to be spending cash on oil.

Yeah, I didn't have to either which is why I got distracted by one of my projects and someone else bought it. $1600 for a King Ultra demo with blowers and gold door should have been an immediate buy while I had them on the phone. My penance is feeding the smoke dragon at the camp and not being able to sleep through a cold night.

I'll keep my eye's out for one but I'm not holding my breath. I never saw one before I had mine in the trailer, even though the place I ordered it through claims to have sold hundreds.
Best hope is a re-model where the BKK won't "Look right" with the new décor.

I'm focusing my search in the Northwest. I'm searching nationwide, but BK listings really drop off the further you get from Washington/Oregon. Pretty much it's Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California. Then a noticeably drop off with Nevada, Utah and Colorado. After that, Michigan gets consistent listings. Other than that it is few and far between.

If I can find one in the Northeast, $1600 is doable. The further out, the lower the price needs to be.

    Is that a current model?

Never mind. It's an older model.

That's how I got mine, it was a floor model(never burned) out in NJ. The shop was doing a remodel and sold the stove silly cheap, it had a gold door but I painted it black. :) They were willing to ship so I had them ship it to my work where we have a loading dock. Used one of the vehicles we have with a lift gate to bring it home.

Good deals can be found just have to keep an eye out and be able to act fast.

Very true. My goal is sub-1k for the King. Based on what I've seen with expired ads, I think it can be done.

I'm sure you know, but I can think of several people in Michigan who could at least give a stove a once over should you find a deal. It's nice to have time to wait for what you want!

I've thought about that. I'm not one to usually ask for help like that, but since this might be a long distance purchase without seeing the item, I might do it if it ends up being near a fellow crazed wood burning loon (no offense, loon :)).

Is it ever. We're having normal winter temps hear this weekend and only running two stoves. Not even running them hard. I'll need the third stove later this week when we get into the low teens.

Usually it means the owner has no idea what the stove is worth or it needs some basic maintenance that the owner thinks is a big deal, like firebricks or cats. No matter the price, you should always assume there is something wrong with a used stove. Ask for additional photos and a few questions that make you seem like a novice, but the answers will tell you how the owner ran his stove.

I bought a Defiant for $400 with a new assembly and cat. I bought an Encore with two cats and an assembly in good shape for $350. Nothing wrong with it. I bought a Heritage at a third of the price and it was clearly only used a handful of times. Throughout the year I could find Fireviews in the $500 price range with nothing wrong with them. I have found several Oslos extremely cheap.

Low price is not an indicator that there is a problem.
