Spent the weekend in the Traverse City area for a little steelhead fishing. Got this on Saturday. Stayed in a nice little cabin on little platte lake. What a beautiful place. Michigan rocks!
Thanks, and yes it was beautiful there. It was an older fish that had been in the river a while, but it was still fun to catch and pretty tasty.
Salt pepper & lemon juice, wrapped in foil on the grill for 30 min or so. Open it up for 5 min with some hickory smoke A little tater sauce Oh Baby !!!!! Melt in your mouth good !!1
Cool. Were you wading or fishing from a boat? I spent many years fly fishing trout and Steelhead back when I lived in MI.
I was in waders, but was actually standing on a public dock in a park when I caught it. Single rubber egg on a hook with a sinker a few feet up the line. He was hanging right behind a female on beds.
I've been to Traverse many times and your right, it's a beautiful place. Just look at your photos... Stunning. I often think when I retire, I would like a summer place in northern Michigan and a winter place somewhere warm... Probably just a pipe dream, as we will most likely stay close to our kids wherever they land. That's OK too though.
Nice catch I recognize the parking lot and the construction on the boardman.I was there fishing those same holes across on other side near picnic table on top of the deck day before trout opener.I pulled a fat brown out but had to throw it back.
Cornflakes, garlic, and crushed red pepper breading. Fried fast in a deep cast iron pan on a turkey fryer burner. From the river to the fryer in less than 8 hours.
