Snagged a decent load from the next town over. The lady that cuts my hair had mentioned they were trying to get rid of it once it was taken down so I grabbed a load. A decent amount of it was dead and dry but still solid. Could have used it last winter..lol.. There's more but it was a pain to drag out. The yard is steep and there's only a small gate..
Yeah probably. I'm going to scout the field across from me first. When I was coming up the road it looked like they dislodged a big locust and walnut from each other. We really wanted those trees last weekend but it looked too dangerous.
Well I went back into the field a got some more black locust. I'd just sharpened my chain when I got home from the maple but the locust was super dirty and I had to noodle it to lift it..lol..
Here's what I've grabbed since last Saturday. The trailer is all maple from today. The piled rounds are black locust and Hackberry from last Saturday and the truck bed is black locust from today. The splits are black locust too except for a couple. Thanks to people like Dennis, and all the members here that preach the 3 year minimum plan I'm on my way! Once all this is stacked I should be sitting on a minimum of 8 cords and I know I have some red oak on the way by the end of the month! Now after 2 Saturday's of this I'm sore and need a lot of beer!
Pretty impressive looking stash ! The locust & maple will add to the BTU total fast ! The big rounds are "prime time" wood ! Great score / s. Don't forget to sharpen your chain , again
Yeah I have to sharpen again.. I wanna cut about 4 more rounds off that locust but there's a vine about the size of my wrist running up it. I'd hack it off in the morning but the wife and I have plans all day. If that thing is still there next week I'm snagging it. There's a big black burch at the other end of the field I want too. I'll hit again next Saturday if he doesn't push it into a pile and burn it first..
Watch that big vine - it's probably poison ivy - it loves to use my locust and ash trees as a trellis. Pull it off before you cut into it with the chainsaw. If the bark is at the point it's falling off of the locust, there's probably about an inch of dirt under it. I like to peel it off and brush the dirt off first. You won't get very far on that hard locust if you're dragging dirt through every cut. Nice work!
Locust and black birch with a maple scrounge? You're hitting it lucky, maybe you should buy a lottery ticket too?
Nice looking wood you got there Drivin! I really like that maple you found... Your hoard is looking really impressive! I remember your first stack not that long ago.. Good job...
