This has been sitting in our storage shed at our old office for years, was the yard saw when my aunt owned the company. We used it to cut lumber for blocking. It has had very light use, because the year after she bought it my dad's nephew (he is to dumb to be my relation, is why I word it that way) said it wouldn't run and that he tried to fix it but he couldn't... then changed his story to he tried to give it a tune up, and then it wouldn't run, either way it has sat on the same shelf for 10-15 years. I was in there this afternoon looking at what to pitch, what to sell/give away and what to move. I'm tired of paying rent on a storage she'd we don't need, so I put the saw in my truck, if I decide not to tinker with it, I'm sure I'll find someone who will want it. I know, I know you just want to see pics... I know nothing for specs on Homelites. Oh, found this as well... dad bought it when he had a fire place, but another item just collecting dust in the shed... Not an optical illusion, the handle has a bow... I have no idea how he did it.
About 3 minutes on Google led me to this... "Yup, that is the Solo 647/654 also sold in the states (and probably elsewhere) as the Homelite 290/340. Good saw, a bit heavy for a sub 50CC. A 340 Homelite (or 654 Solo) cylinder and piston will fit, giving you 54cc. Other than that, a muffler mod is about it. It is a clamshell design." ... No idea on the value, but probably nothing, especially if it's not running or has major damage (like a smoked P&C from some goofball trying to "tune it up.") If you think you can fix it cheap, it might be a fun project.
Randy Duncan has one listed on the Cincy CL for $80. I once bought a 340 at auction for $5.00 and traded it away years ago.

Well you don't need a back up saw You don't need a light weight limber You'd need another chain type. Me I'd tinker with it & get it running, but during winter. But then what ? Raffle it off here somehow for free. Come up with an entry form, for those who want it to enter . Have the drawing at the GTG Winner has to want it & pays shipping I don't want it, don't need it, but CAD might make me enter & have another saw setting collecting dust (No, seriously I'm trying to find/make floor space not take up more) BUT Might me someone here with the need of a saw for a good price too. didn't vote ,. Would Give it away, before tossing it
If you need practice with learning how to work on saws, freebies are great for learning - no problems if something breaks, etc. When I can grab free saws (at the dump, etc) that aren't work much, I'll grab the useful parts off - gas/oil caps, pull handle, fasteners, etc. and toss the rest. Cheers!

My old man bought one of those boat anchors years ago, maybe when I was 12 or 13? (I'm talking about the maul) And that was all I used to split wood from then on. I remember my brothers and I complaining about how many swings it took with the small axe, then my dad came home with that monster one day. Kids today would call child protective services if dad gave that to them. I remember what happened when I'd overswing with that bad boy, talk about getting your bell rung, more like getting electrocuted.
