Have a couple days off and started today off by going to get my 2015 firewood permit from the USFS. Stopped after that to the fun store (Stihl dealer), I meant to only get a gallon of bar oil, ended up taking home a new ms170 for a good price. That was a gift for my dad. After I ate lunch and got home, I grabbed my Durango and my ms361 and headed to the woods for a load of firewood! Just got it unloaded and am chilling now. All in all a good day!
The 361 was ported this winter by Wicked Work Saws... You can lean into the cut now and it just doesn't bog out. It's on its second tank since I got it back. I'm impressed. Bad part is I won't be able to use a stock saw anymore, knowing it is nowhere near its potential! I would occasionally run this saw before porting without ear pro, not now... It's loud. Put the plugs in and wow you can hear just how mean it sounds in the cut.
Congratulations Joe. I predict you will love that little saw. We bought a 180 a couple years ago and absolutely love it, especially when cutting up the tops. Also use it for some pruning. Shoot, I even cut some 16" or larger wood with it just for kicks. With the narrow kerf, it is surprising what it can do. I'm not too happy about how the adjuster is for chain and also the brake is too close. Wearing gloves it seems I'm forever setting the brake. Sill love it.
I see you're from Mesick. If I'm not mistaken, that is the mushroom capital of Michigan. Any morels poppin up there yet? I'm thinkin they might run a little late this year with the cold spring.
No morels yet. Needs to stay somewhat warm at night, get some warm soggy rain, and if the conditions are right, some sun. If that all happens we end up with some morels. Usually now thru mid-May.
I hope we do get some rain soon. It's so dry up here with the wind and little rain we've had. I hope we don't end up with another summer of nationwide forest fires.
Next week looks warm and wet. I'm thinkin next weekend might be good for some shrooms. Nothing like some deep fried dandys with an ice cold beer!
The Durango is a beat down old vehicle that works well for what it is. I can fit a facecord worth of wood in the back. I did hear that the 01 F150 Screw that was given to a friend might be coming back to me later this year! This would be great. I'll sell or trade the Durango for a new wood splitter!
