Gotta watch some of the "topsoil" around here. I think some places "sterilize" it to kill off weed seeds. I don't know if it burns off the organic matter or what but it seems like it takes a while before grass seed will take.

Good idea as long as your wife doesn't decide you can't shot her "pet" deer as a friend's wife did.

Sorry to hear about that. My wife is a vegetarian, but totally supports me shooting and eating deer. No problems there, thank goodness.

If you get to know deer in your mind as walking deer tick infestations it helps.

Yeah, that's how we look at them. As you know we are in "hot zone" for tick and Lyme disease. Our chickens take care of them around the house. We have to count on the hawks, owls, foxes, etc. to keep the mice in check further out. The deer take pounding during Fall hunting, but, they are like weeds and always come back.

Yea I still don't understand how in our area the harvest is so strict but if I go 5 minutes south I can shot umpteen deer a year.

Beautiful set-up. Great start. You are going to love saving on the oil heat. My heatpump did not come on at all last winter. Heated totally with wood.

Today, I put in a couple hours splitting some oak that was in my pile of rounds, maybe 1/2 cord. I'm finally over 3 cord. 2 of faster drying stuff and 1 of oak. I'd like to get 1-2 more cord of the faster drying stuff put up this spring. I've got about 1/2 cord of ash in my pile of rounds, then, I'll have to start felling/scrounging again.
