I've had a fire going since Saturday night. I fill the stove in the morning and let it burn hard for an hour and then shut it down, then at night I have a good bed of coals and I repeat.
Yeah, luckily it hasn't been sticking to the ground. If we had 7" or 8" on the ground I think we would have to move.
Pete, do you really need that tree hanging over your yard? They suck on the soil like crazy. Gardens do a lot better not competing for light, water and nutrients. Maybe you have some firewood right in front of you!
Nop its gonna get removed as soon as the grounds hard. I took a mulberry out a few years ago. This time I am removing the one on the left an asian elm.
It snowed all day on the mountain near here, right now it's a balmy 40°. Unreal. I brought in a weeks worth of wood in last Sunday. By the looks of the extended forecast, I'll be bringing in more this weekend! Wow.....will it ever warm up?? The NZ3000 is humming along.......
Seeing how long some of you have to burn makes me appreciate where I am that much more. It may be cold here this week but next week it could get hot just like that.
Started back up last night and it looks like we'll be burning for at least another week. Ok by me so I don't have as much to haul off the back patio. I've split the last two evenings and had to grab my hat with the ear flaps as that wind was going in one ear and right out the other side.....
Yuppers, we had snow on the ground a couple times but it melted fairly quick. And I too am tired of this wind. It is worse when cold outside and it is cold. Looks like low 20's for tonight. There have been very few days we have not had a fire. I hope that ends soon.
I have to admit I've turned the lectric heat on in the living room for a little bit a few mornings to keep from getting the house to hot. But had to light a fire today. Felt much better doing that than turning the thermostat. Gotta mow grass tomorrow, probably in long johns.
That was probably the whistling sound I heard! Same here. Mowed last Tues till I managed to knock a tire off the rim on my scag. Beer MAY have been involved. Hey! I was on vacation! This morning I started a fire for she who thinks she must be obeyed to keep warm by while she napped. (Working midnights). Crazy stuff.
Yes it's that odd time of year when you have to build a fire and then go mow grass. I thought I was done but have built fires the last 2 nights. No snow but a frost warning in effect for us tonight.
I enjoy those odd 50 degree days in August when I have an excuse to light a fire. But right now, I just feel as if I am burning wood that I will have to replace. I am ready to not NEED a fire. On the bright side, one more week like this and all the twigs and branches will be gone from my yard. Then I can start processing the remaining tree tops in the woods around the house. A lot of pretty decent size wood out there. Will be great for this coming year's shoulder season. Beech and maple, and a little incidental ironwood. Today, every time I went out to work the dog wanted to go for a walk first. And every time, before we got back it was snowing again. Never snowed much, but did it persistently. We were in and out many times. Didn't get very much done, other than exercise the dog.
