yea, I learned the hard way that stuff breaks- lost my eldest daughters' high school graduation.....she was Salutatorian.....went over like a fart in church with my ex-wife......now, I autobackup to an internal terabyte drive, as well as an external drive........mine wasn't an Apple......don't wanna get into the Apple/Windows argument, I've just always used Windows....

I bypass that one LW by not using either. First rule of computing you can never have too many backups. Second rule back it up again. Any questions?

:picard: I sit here with two defunct PC's in this room right now. Not willing to give them to the only computer place here and let them tell me it was too hard to do, so we wiped out your hard drive but did not retrieve the pictures. No thanks, I can wipe my hard drive out all by myself, you know?

I also sit here with a 2 TB backup that I cannot get my 3rd pc to talk to :headbang:

Got home this morning and the house was 55 (on the slightly warmer half of the house). Thought about pressing the button on the stove, but ultimately put the electric heater in the bedroom and set it on 4 hrs and went to bed. This evening, before leaving for work, it was still 55, and outside temps dropping overnight and the next few suppose to be in 30's. So figured what the heck and fired up the stove. Its been running a bit sooty again so is probably due for deep clean, just got to get through another few days.

Yep, I broke rule #1 and may pay a big price. But as we speak, the new Seagate 1TB Backup Plus drive is getting filled with Time Machine back-up data from the new machine......it just finished.

Now that's funny. Should have used a Large Hammer on the Computer! I do understand the frustration with an uncooperative computer.

I've gotten really po'ed at various times with computers of all ilks and never trust anything. Wildwest since I don't know who formatted your usb drive and what it was formatted for I'd be a poor candidate to unravel things and it may be a very simple thing to unravel. Sort of like my wife and her sewing machines which are really simple devices once you strip away the electronics. The problem with those devices is the manufacturer doesn't provide a detail service manual for the owner. There is a Elna TX something upstairs that likely has a very simple issue but me poking around in its innards would get missed. Hopefully my last 15 minutes of poking actually found and fixed the gremlin, this machine goes to classes with her because it is light weight she had tried to fix it the last day or so without any luck and wants to take it to her two upcoming classes (tonight and tomorrow). There's another Elna on the floor on the other side of this desk that likely also has a simple issue that the boss isn't all that interested in currently.

On the computer front for me it is common for my machines to outlast their CMOS batteries and run for a long while, the one that this machine replaced was 10 years old when replaced and I still have it.

Yes on two fronts. I am a huge fan of the older sewing machines with less electronics, though I only sew for necessity, nothing elaborate. I am interested in my pc's, getting into them just never happens. Heck, if you were available for hire I'd pay you big bucks to come do my warsh
Grizzly adam volunteered to help me a few months ago when he had a few days off, I did not get it done in time, and squandered the opportunity,:heidi: on me!! But, he gave me a foundation to start from and I think I will get it done, someday....

Crummy weather day here on my only day off for weeks. Temp in the low forties with 20-30 mph wind gusts. Occasional sun peeking through and giving enough solar gain to keep the stove off, although it's only a balmy 66 in here. Gonna do some little inside jobs and relax with a few cold ones while the little ones nap. Not many other options.

Warsh ??? no way I'm doing any more warsh than I already do. The sewing machine appears to be functioning correctly so I must have dislodged the crud in the works (they are waylaid by the same malady that our roasters are). The boss has it already in the car so she can tech her class this evening for one of the quilt clubs. She also makes clothes, drapes, pillows, and a whole lot of etc... To give you some idea wildwest there are 6 sewing machines and a serger in the house.

will and mithesaint, I wished I dared to try a cold one. Been trying to recover from a second round of crud this spring. Having germ factories around doesn't help us old farts all that much.

It can either help or hurt depending on where the crud is and where the airstream sends it. I like to remove the crud using tweezers if I can see it and get to it. This was hidden and I had to remove more of the machine than I like to remove. It is that no decent detailed manual. The TX is controlled by an air pressure presser foot which can by itself be interesting.

Nothing worse than being cold and soaked so we always dress for the weather and bring our fowl gear JIC.
