Nowim onto basic maintenance stuff... It was pretty neglected from what I can tell. Brakes front back, shocks, spark plugs, oil change, air filter, wiwipers, tensioner pulley etc.... Big list of stuff to fix. It runs fantastic but I thought the alternator would make me go deaf! Lol
maybe a new quality belt could stop the squealing, been there done that, but maybe not. Sand and or wire brush, clean, degrease the pulleys, maybe, did you get any antifreeze on them? Doesn't take very much to screw them up good
I had a preowned 96 w/2.2 that I paid $2000 for. Drove it for 4 years. Had 180,000 on it when I sold it for $1500. Have an '03 extended cab 4.3 that I gave $3500 for 6 years ago and still running strong. I wish the mileage was better on these 4.3's. On the plus side parts are cheap for them. Other than basic maintenance I've not put much $ into these. I checked the KBB value on mine a couple months ago and fair condition value was more than I paid 6 years ago.
The alternator grinds terribly when its sound by hand and is putting out between 8 and 16 volts intermittent it's toast.. the tensioner seized up and when I fired it up it started to smoke a little it's also shot. The guy I purchased it from put maybe 3000 miles a year on it so it was probably fine until it sat for over a year. Either way I am at $600 invested roughly so it's a steal! I can't wait to drive that bad boy.....

I am not sure I usually go to either Chesaning auto salvage just north of Chesaning or Cats in lansing. Chesaning has a pile of s10 stuff in their building already pulled. She decided to clean it out cuz she's incredibly impatient I don't even have the hood back on it yet! We stopped today and picked up most of the parts at Advance Auto that we needed mainly belt, brakes, plugs and shocks a few other little things too. The blazer is loaded I had stuff falling out the tailgate… All in all we are $700 into it and I need a bumper, Alternator and battery to finish it off so for under $1000 total it will be back up and all fixed!
Amazon had a good price on a bumper. Mine just got smashed the other day !!! 2nd time in 5 months and both times NOT by me ,,,,,,, GRRRRRRRRRRRRR! I checked Rock auto and the shipping was outrageous just for the bumper!!!!
Hey what ya know I found a pic of my old s10 ( Kinda) lol That little 2.2L got beat up but it could haul! This is from at least 4 years ago maybe more Im not sure. Any who… The new one should be up and running by next weekend! The new bumper is on the way along with the valance. All I need to fire it up again is the Alternator which will be in tomorrow. They ordered the wrong one so I have to wait again….
either that or load shocks… Either way I still don't overload the bed just load it like normal then level it out and hook up the trailer for the rest.

New Alternator, front Brakes, Abs sensors, rear diff flush, motor flush, spark plugs, rear brakes, front and back shocks, air and oil filters, timing chain, plug wires, greased all joints and some other small stuff totals after a few parts returns today $879.23 invested into parts $23.99 into beer!!!! Edit also new bumper for $169 primed black forgot to add that splurge... Pile of junk parts...

I just ordered some coil assist rear shocks for mine. Put that utility tool cap on a month ago and now got it loaded up with tools. It squats about level but now it doesn't like the hillbilly Duke whoops on the back road to Sasparillyville. Even at slow speeds. She wants to buck like a shotguned mule on them whoops and I ain't havin' it. I gotz to goto the junkyard too. It just don't run gooder without the Chevy emblem on the new grill. Guarantee it'll make more ponies I get that glued on.
