Some of the splits have to be re cut Ah, stackin not the funniest part of the process Ready set go Ok that's enough for today Na, I put a dent in it, , I got more than that done ,no pics , cuz next thing I knew it was almost dark I think the splitter under the tarp is a little lonely right now , once I stack this stuff It will get some company
I see you got some arm extensions too... Anything to cut back on the number of times bending and lifting is gooder isn't it HD?
The journey of stacking a thousand splits begins with a single stacked split. Paraphrasing, of course.
Keeping it all neat & organized is a never ending process. Motivation for me: 1. knowing it don't start to season until it's stacked. 2. posting pics of the stack for the folks at FHC 3. having the view of the stack to look at 4. proudly knowing all the work it took to get it to that point Now get to work LOL
Some good looking dry wood. That the $100 2 cord stuff ? looks like you use the hay hook a lot. Works for a good short "pickaroon" . Both are back savers & glove savers too.
I find the motivation level for stacking drops drastically if I leave a pile of splits. Doing all 3 C/S/S in one day breaks the monotony of any one task, and gives the rewards of stacked splits (and pics) with a cold beer looking over the days accomplishment
Yep, That's the $100 2 cord stuff. No Stacking today had other stuff I had to do Ya I do end up using that hay hook quite a lot it is sharp sticks in the wood well, and it will pick up smaller stuff that the tongs won't grab, works out real well for me because I am short, it's 17" long, part of the time I have the hook in one hand in the tongs in the other. I could do it faster just bending over and picking them up but I don't know if I would be able to stand up next day. It isn't about speed anyway it is about getting it done and being able to do more the next day. Sometimes with a bigger splits I have to use two hands to pick it up because of the arthritis in my hands, so the tools are a big help in that respect
Man I'm know'n what you're dig'n. That bending over is a back killer for me too. Wear out the knees on my pants , better to work on my knees than bend, Like my tongs a lot. need to look for the hay hook or make one, can see it would have some good uses for handling wood.
I like my tongs to, great tool Bought the extra long hey hook at Tractor Supply 8 bucks, it's like a pulp hook but a lot longer, I re bent it cold, to work better for Wood, after I sharpened it the tip it started to bend, so I just heated up the end and quenched it to harden it worked like a charm and never bent since
I have found working with 2 pulp hooks to be a major back saver and easier on the hands too. Go slow and easy. I don't want to hook my shin by accident.
I been thinking about trying out a pulp hook, but how long are they? it seems like they would be to short to be a real back sever
They are shorter than your hay hook but regardless every inch that you don't bend over is an inch less of bending. I'm not always picking off the ground either. They work for picking splits off a tossed pile.
First time I met HD, I thought he was sitting but then he started walking! Well, not far to fall if need be so not a bad build.
