Hi everyone. So this was our first year with the Accentra. Loved it! So my delima is that I horded 8 tons of Sommers during the 2014 pre buy from TSC. We only used a little less than 4. I have the urge to restock this year and get back to 8 but i am wondering if they will degrade over time due to the higher humidity levels from the Ohio summers. What does everyone think? If it helps they are stored indoors but not in an area that gets A/C during the summer.

Welcome to the party. We like beer. What are Sommer's? Never heard of them if they're pellets.
Your pellets are fine over the summer as long as you keep them dry. Most of us here are pigs and have pellets in our stash year round. I personally still have 4.5 tons in my basement. Also, the pellet houses here in the east all have spring buy specials, so a lot of people will be buying next years pellets sooner rather than later. So buy the 4 extra tons and live without worrying about next year's supply.

Thanks Sub! Exactly what I was hoping to hear. My wife on the other hand may not be so happy. Haha. She is anti hoarding at the moment. You never know when you might need an extra one or two...just like beer! :D

I've burned 3 year old pellets (and that's my possession of them... they may have sat at the pellet house for a year too) without any noticeable differences.

So long as your bags are sealed, you'll be fine.

I wouldn't buy more right now only for the sole fact that pellets are expensive as they've ever been. While it may be more next year, it may also be less. Hedge that to your own prerogative.

Beer time, sounds like a Friday plan to start the weekend! Just unloaded a 1 ton load of Cubex. Did a 1 1/2 ton the other day. Saturday or Sunday will be 2 tons. Shouldn't have pellets to load this Fall :D My lawn is taking a beating as it thawing out :mad:so next year I will have to do it sooner before the melt:smoke:I decided to store them outdoors this year next to my basement patio door. I will put a temporary garage over them when I finish unloading them:yes:

    Welcome to FHC...

Grab as many ton of Somersets as you can. As long as they are covered and not outside and susceptible to water/moisture? Then you are good to go!

What type of stove do you have? I know a buddy that lives near/in Eaton! ;) He burns pellets as well!

Hi Dexter! Last year we picked up a Harman Accentra 52i insert. It works perfect for our living area. For heat to the rest of the house and domestic hot water we also burn an outdoor wood boiler. I put in zoning last year and it really reduced our wood consumption. In addition to hoarding pellets i also hoard wood too! :D I think I am going to restock again on the Somersets if the price is right this pre buy season. $199/ton was a pretty good deal last year.

I'm about 20 minutes from Eaton. I live just south of Wellington Ohio.

I burn pellets and wood as well.

That 52i is a very nice stove! I love the technology inside it. The touch screen interface is a nice feature. :)

Where are you buying your pellets? Menards?

I think I have ~2 tons left in the pole barn. Only one water damaged bag so far, and I think that was at the retailer, not here, though the barn does leak. We are pretty dry humidity here, so I am expecting them to still be good over the summer into next fall. But we will be burning during the summer too.

Our dealers do not bring pellets in till fall, so not spring early buy that I am aware of. If there was one I would jump on it!

    Nice to meet you :)

Yes :emb: I require high 70*'s, and this house can be 50* even in the summer if we do not heat it. Cool summers here at this high elevation....
