Well fella's, I have it REAL bad! I need some help, and I'm serious! Last week I took a leisurely walk in the woods with a nice cigar. I walked past and admired all my past stumps that I've cut up in the last year or so, and I went deeper into the woods about 1/2 mile in. I came across this HUGE red oak tree, that had big straight beautiful low "branch" split off in what looks like the Sandy storm. It was further into the woods that I want to take my little tractor, so I brushed it off and went home.

Well, I was having problems sleeping at night for the past week thinking about this dang thing!! I just could not let it lay there knowingly! It was big, straight, no rot, and the bark was loose and falling off. It doesn't get any better! So yesterday, I couldn't take it anymore and took the day off from work, blasted a path to it and it's all now history!

It's now stacked in qtr's and 6ths in my neighbors yard! I have run out of space on my property, 12+ cords now... YIKES! HELP!! Somebody take my saw away or something!!

Bust that up into smaller pieces, or it won't be ready until 2027.
Nice score. I did that last year at my SIL's place and ended up taking down a decent sized Oak (sans the cigar). Part of the trunk and some limbs are still out there....waiting for me.

That "branch" looks like a good sized tree in it's own right! Nice haul! Beautiful weather for it too!

Rode the bike by a blow down birch , several times.
Got sleep last night not worrying about it , as yesterday when I rode by, it was cut into rounds,
    Whew ! :hair:

You need to stay out of the woods or find a bigger piece of property.
    Nice limb.

You know, that is a GOOD analogy to start using! When my wife says "No, just leave it.....", I'm going to start saying, "Would you just walk past a gold nugget laying on the ground?" :D

Just maybe I'm not so nuts.... !

There you go! Good thinking on how to explain (justify) this work (obsession) to your better half.

Better yet, buy her jewelry made out of wood on future anniversaries and birthdays to further prove your point.

That is a great find! Wish I had a dozen or more like it. On the wife, rather than jewelry, get her some nice things made of wood. Bowls, end table, etc. Maybe she can relate.

Very nice, Machria! Good looking set up, too. Now, buy a handful of cigars and get back out there and drop the rest of it before it punks at that wound:saw::tree::axe:

You might as well add the rest of that oak to your hit list.
A scar that big may heal over, but the vast majority of the trunk will rot, just drop it and let the baby oaks in area have the sunlight;)

So now you have a path further back in there so's you get access to more wood than before. Good plan!
    LOL
    Nice find, BTW.
