    So...update.
I tried inviting her brother here from St. Louis. They are great friends in addition to siblings. Offered to pay gas, food, etc to make it happen. She hasn't seen him since she moved here last fall. He responded that they have plans for a bar crawl for charity the weekend before her Bday weekend. Yep, that's opening weekend for Turkey season and I already told her I wasn't going to this bar crawl months ago. (Used to go every year) I'm getting to dayum old for that chit anyway. Only reason I ever went was to keep her upright and outta the pokey.

    Soooooo, back to square 1.

On the bright side of things, maybe her friends will do something that weekend for her which she would appreciate more than me doing something I think. Since I don't facebook, I guess I will never know.

I posted this on a gun forum I frequent also and this is the #1 answer there. As much as I'd love to (shes been and LOVED it) , I don't have the extra $. I looked up tickets. $610 each. Plus hotels, food, drink, parking, etc.

When she went last time, she had good tix so cheapo infield seats isn't gonna cut it.

    Not gonna happen.

It's cheap to go to the infield...Been there a bunch of times when I was young and never seen a horse.

Tough Sticky situation....good luck on it. Is there a movie that she'd like to go see? Maybe just a simple night of candle light (40 candles though). and soft music... Her favorite drink and a steak....

Flowers at work is always a win but do NOT send birthday flowers. Just flowers with a note of appreciation for her being in your life. Let her decide if she wants to tell the office it is her birthday or not.

Then take her to the derby. Special day special date. Doesn't have to be on her actual birthday. For her birthday make reservations somewhere in town and in the morning tell her you have reservations at such and such for that night but can cancel if she prefers to stay in. Reservations means you were thinking about her and didn't half azz it at the last minute. Offering to cancel means you value her opinion and that she doesn't have to stress because she hasn't got the right dress or underwear or whatever it is. Limiting the options to go or stay in means you won't have to spend 2 hours talking about it.
