Wish I could pick up my pellets but my garage is being used for a staging area for the rebuild of our new downstairs living space. However, I won't buy overpraised pellets. Fuel is down, like way down. Pellets shouldn't increase. Cost of operating the mill and transportation should allow for higher profit margins even if the price of pellets stayed the same. If you run a clean quality stove you have no need to buy into higher priced pellets that only can eek out 6% more heat. Been there, done that. I have a new high effiency heating system going in a his week. I will being using my pellet stove, but it has to be cost saving for me to aztempt to heat the whole house with it.
I agree on all points Larry. The only difference is that for the an extra 20-40 per ton is worth the cost if I dont have to clean the stove as often. This past winter was brutal (you are well aware of that) and my time was at a premium between high stress at work, constant snow cleanup and life. The Lacretes let the stove run for as much as 2 weeks without even having to do a quick shut down and firebox cleaning. That paid for the premium pellets on this end. Sometimes I need to factor in my own labor as well as downtime and see what that is worth.
I burned blazers all winter. Cleaning was seldom and very quick. I burned MWP last year for the most part and didn't have much to clean either. I'm retired, and although very limited in my mobility, I can sit in front of the stove and do the cleaning with little effort. I feel good that I am able to do that.
have you burned these before? I had horrible luck with these. just crazy ash. two bags, full pan. no joke. heat wasn't that good either.
Nice score on the Blazers and I agree that the MWP are no slouch for an all around pellet Now if we van only get back to the 150.00 per ton max that I heard about prior to burning pellets and have never seen OK, OK, that was wayyyy back in 2006 or so and and I am dreaming........
It's the first year I've burned them. It might have created more ash that others, but I can't tell. It took about a ton and a half, I think, before I emptied the ash container and cleaned the burn chamber.
I must be old, I paid about $110/ton at a pellet house and even less at the box store in 99. I think I paid around $150 ish in 04. Skipped right up to $200 in 06. I did pay $175 on some SC and Natures Own during the box wars. I'd be happy to see those days again. Looking like $250 might be the bottom this season. Less coupons or discounts.
I think you are spot on Jay , for us in the North East ,may cheaper in other areas closer to the mills .
I'm with you Jay, that's why I loaded up now. Just got a feeling we probably won't see below that too much this coming season.
Looks like PD is doing the "Extreme Pellet Power Package" thing again this year. What do you think of the "Formula For Savings"? http://www.pelletsdirect.com/2015 Power Packages.htm
