In all seriousness, I am really excited to finally have a decent trimmer. My last one was crap and had no A/V. Now I just need a new Stihl leaf blower :)

I'm about to tackle some of the grasses now. There is about a dozen large species around the house in various places. Some people cut them in the fall (per instructions), but I was told by the farm down the street that the freeze is not good for the bottom of the grass chute. Once you cut them, it's a hollow shell. So wait until Spring and cut them before new growth starts.

Sometimes you just have to break down and buy things you NEED, not just a want.:yes:

My dad had me shopping those things for him last year. I think he went with the echo though.

I was torn between the Echo and this Stihl.

Both around the same price point. Echo has 5 year warranty and the Stihl 4 year (2 years, but doubled when you buy their oil).

I was closer to Worcesters, than a HD. So I chose Stihl.

Too funny...I bought a Stihl today as well. I picked a KM130 combi motor with a power broom. Decided that I has raked the gravel out of the lawns back into the driveway for too many years, it was time for something easier.

Of course, while I was there the dealer did have to mention he had a deal on 461 saws- $849 with a 20" bar.

$849 for a 461!! Better snag it up now! LOL

    I have a KM 130 R as well. It's a great powerhead with tons of torque! !

Did a Muff mod before it made the first cut. That's as good as its gonna get. Sounds good now!

in lieu of buying a hedge trimmer I hooked a chain to my holly bushes:dex:
tested the load rating on my chain and front tow hooks and made use of my 4wd

We have a bunch of that tall ornemental grass on the golf course. We cut 'em in the spring too. ;)

What did you wrap the grasses with before you cut them ?
Where did you get all of those fancy XP stickers from ?

Salt Fork has those grasses for 150 markers. They just torch them every year, they come back just as tall and full. So I took the weed burner to mine, no clean up!

I dont worry about warranties myself. Last 2 346 I bought new I told the dealer no warranty needed.

IMO your a stihl guy and the echo would have just thrown off your proper balance in life.

If you light them up be careful! Mega btu's in that straw. They are slowly getting around to making home heating fuel pellets out of grass. Looking forward to the day we can say "pound sand" to the middle east....

I just use some tape. Otherwise they fall apart into a million pieces. It takes an extra minute to wrap them, but it's time we'll wasted.

I was told by our local Co-op that they could be burned, but most are closer than I like to the house. If they were more than 20 ft away? They would ignite them in a ball of fury. :)

That's what I thought. The warranty didn't matter much. It got a muff mod right away anyways. Sounds good now!! :dex:

I burn them every year, but it's at a burn pile at the back of my property, which is about 250 yards from my house/garage.

I know that's a great price, and I have been wanting one, but domestic tranquility is important too!
