I got a tip on a guy giving away a lot of wood, so I figured I'd check it out today.. This guy had a bunch of trees taken down and the tree guys left the wood behind. Found some locust, oak, and I think maple. I attached a picture to see if you guys can tell me what it is.
He also had a log splitter sitting there, it said 31 ton on it.. I said what's up with the splitter? He said he had a deal with a guy who never got back to him - the deal was if the guy took all the wood, he could have the splitter for 100$!! I offered him 400$ on the spot, he wants ALL the wood removed though, and I don't have nearly enough room to take it all.. I told him I'll take at least half and the 400$ still stands. That splitter has to be worth at least 1000 bucks.. We'll see I guess.

I put the wood in a mini storage if it meant getting the deal on the splitter.

    Looks like sweetgum
It shouldn't be a problem with hydro's though

I was thinking that too, but it split way to easy to be sweetgum. It popped apart pretty easily..

it does that in big rounds when you split the rings on the edge - like you did;)
where's this splitter at? WE WANT POWER EQUIPMENT PICS:cool:

The rest of the stuff by the fence is mostly rotten gum logs from the distance anyways

chit.. i saw sweetgum leaves on the floor too. Oh well, I'm gonna get all the locust and oak, and try and make a deal for the splitter. Unless I use the splitter onsite to split all the gum

I didn't get a picture of the splitter, in going back tomorrow or Sunday. I'll take a couple pictures.if you zoom in between the trees you could see it in the back.

@400 you're making money even if it requires a bit of work
haul the rotten stuff down a dead end road and kick it in a ditch for that price

Gum burns fine, seasons in 12-16months in my climate.
gets a bad rep for lower BTU's with the knarly splitting, if you need wood and have room stack it - it will heat your house
