By looking at posted pictures here and elsewhere; it sure seems that most folks place their stoves with a wall close behind, or in a corner, or in a fireplace, or in an alcove. In essence, the stove is set out of the traffic pattern of said house. What I'm wondering/asking is if anyone here has their stove set up in the middle of a room/house where all four sides of the stove are visible?? I would love to build a small timber framed house someday, and have the stove centrally located within it. What's it like to look at the backside of a stove???? Many come with permanent heat shields back there and labels, etc. Anyone got one set up like this??
Do a google image search for "wood stove center of room" for some ideas. You will probably want a cast-iron stove like a jotul or Vermont Casting. Some of their traditional stoves are pretty to look at from all sides. There are also some Scandinavian stoves that are very modern and have viewing windows on two sides. One of my uncles had a huge cabin with an old cast-iron stove in the center of the main room. Did a great job of heating and was the main cooking stove in season. The possibilities are endless... A friend had a lake house with the wood stove on a raised hearth in the middle of the den. Looked good, worked good.
I don't remember who it was, but someone from "the other site" had a big old Hearthstone Equinox or one of their largest stoves in the middle of a room. I save the pic. I'll see if I can find it.
Can't find the pic. Beautiful room, and 2 labs sitting in front of the stove on a dog bed/pillow. Maybe someone else will remember.
Naw...get one of these for the center of the room. Don't have to worry about CTC issues if you're in the center!
