My lab, Billy Bob, broke a piece of stick off and wedged it in his upper mouth - talk about a difficult removal

I can easily imagine you going after that stick while Billy Bob was not into it. Can relate... years ago, our husky Tekayo tangled with a porcupine at 5 am, on a Sunday. She was pizzed and drove about a dozen, of the hundred plus total, up thru the top of her mouth and almost out thru the top of her snout, as well as down her throat. It was quite a fight to get those in her throat and top of her mouth, before she swallowed some and it was all over. Luckily, my son was there and is really strong. He sat in a big chair and hugged her, arms & legs, from the back making it impossible for her to move much. I pulled the damm quills in her mouth with gloves and pliers as fast as I could. She was beyond insane. Tears were flowing with all family thats for sure. It was ugly. We finally found a vet clinic 40 miles away that would see her on a Sunday and they put her to sleep to get all of the majority of the quills out. Day later, she was fine, we'll never forget. This is Tekayo... we miss her.

    That sounds rough Stinny.
Two things we don't have in our area - porcupines and skunks, neither seem to mix well with dogs

Had a skunk here last spring. He was after the bird seed. Didn't care at all when Giz and I walked out, spotlights on. He just kept eating what had fallen on the deck. Giz was on leash and finally let out her nuclear shriek and he just walked away... and thankfully never came back. No skunk smell either. Lucky.

We had a Rottweiler many years ago and I remember once having to stick my hand way down in his throat to pull out a lodged pork chop bone. I was in there almost to my elbow.

Have taken care of that one several times. My dogs always let me pull the wedged sticks out. They are very miserable until you take care of it.

I had a large german shephard mix choke on a big chunk of cheese of cheese. I tried as hard as I could but her gag/choke reflex was so strong she was biting my hand too hard to get down to it.

I think this was within a month or two of finding/rescuing him from the National forest, he was still skiddish of having his mouth opened.
GF had to hold him while I tried to get ahold of that slimy stick, and it was stuck in there hard.
To this day(he's 8yo) he walks around like I beat him after putting a tick collar on him for a few days

Here is a situation you may run across, and a means to deal with it. Our lab's first Christmas celebration was to eat a Christmas ball, the glass type. She never lost a drop of blood orally at least. Freaked us out though. The thought of what may be going on internally. Resolve was not to induce vomiting, but to administer a double human dose of Metamucil along with some watered down food. The idea being that the Metamucil and food/water mix would act as a tomb of sorts for the glass. Metamucil expands as it absorbs the water, thus keeping the glass away from intestine and bowel walls. We were graced with some very sparkly puppy piles for a few days, but all was well.

Dogs running with sticks are worse than kids running with scissors. Even if they carry the long ones by the middle, they still have risk of jaw or neck injury.

Friend of mine's lab ate the water bowl - the entire plastic bowl.
After a couple days of no passage the vet performed surgery, laid the pooches' intestines on the table in front of him and went to town pulling plastic.
My friend, having seen all kinds of crazy chit in Afghanistan & Iraq in the early days of the wars, was impressed to say the least
