    I feel very short.

That said, poplar is not very storm proof. It doesn't have much tensile strength before it snaps. I had a 70' poplar top act like a tumbleweed right in front of my jeep, requiring me to ditch bang around it. Scary, but all good.

I told you all you would think I'm nuts... Its
Yea unfortunately I know its not a very hardy tree. I am honestly amazed they have made it this long. When we bought the home part of the contract included them leaving the two red oaks that had been blown down in a tropical storm. So i am very surprised the poplars made it through that.

After lots of tree damage over the years, mostly from ice storms, this is what I did to the closest trees before building. All Red Oaks, cut at the first Y, off the forks of a Sky Track. Left the saw logs standing and they really bushed out over the last three years. image.jpg image.jpg

See, that looks like the best of both worlds. Shade, and less chance for unwelcome trees in the living room.

Yeah, I assume a saw log would withstand a tornado. Had another one 4-5 ft from the corner of the porch. I guess digging the footing killed it. Took it out while the backhoe was still here, kind of glad its gone.

Anyone else worry about that big limb hanging up there , top right?
Maybe it's just a dead vine , but it is going to come down ( just when? )

Any smal saw mills close ?
Some would make nice lumber, enough to make a good woodshed . :zip:
