Saw this one today on the way to church. I think he got a little closer to the house then planned. Looks like the house took a beating. image.jpg

Wonder if a Pro job or a DIY.

Now you can swoop in & haul away the wood ?
    Gonna ask ?

It's a DIY, there has been a month long project going on there slowly cutting up a tree in the backyard. Now this one in the front is coming down. Also looking at the cuts on the stump it's probably a DIY. I don't really need any more wood so Im being picky and only taking the good stuff.

Yea, it's nice to be a wood snob.
While riding my bike, I've seen a few possible scrounges but just rode on by.
Now if a primo scrounge showed up, I'd stop & ask.

I know folks like their big trees close to the house for shade.
    But eventually they come down.
Keep them pruned & at a manageable size.

Very hard to understand people sometimes. That family really saved a lot of money.

You'd think people would know their limits AND know what presented potential dangers.

    What a great Easter present.

Yes, silver maple. Decent wood but not great and I have one that size in my yard waiting to come down.

That's what I was thinking. Silver maple. It's great shoulder season wood, but of you already have some of that, and better wood hoarded, then why bother. Someone else probably needs it more.

Dave nailed it earlier, I'm kind of a wood snob now. I have lots of oak and locust in the stacks. For shoulder season I prefer cherry and ash so I'll pass on other stuff unless I really need it.

Might have gone better with someone else cutting... who knows. Don't forget the gravitational super strong impossible to stop magnetic cosmic vortex around houses, that just sucks trees into them...:emb: It's called the "chit happens" phenomenon... ;)

That's the same gravitational pull that makes trees in forests snag the one place they can't go to make a widow maker.:headbang:

Right where I want to be.
Almost looks like that v part broke and fell. Maybe that's what hit the house?
Pretty interesting back cut on the front trunk.

Thats me right now. I have some monsters in the yard but hate to part with them. I inspect them often and take notes of how many limbs they are losing and potential rot. Saddens me thinking about taking them down but at aome point I will have to. You all would think Im crazy with how many big trees I have so close to the house.

That's what tree services are for. Prune or take down the dangerous ones before they do damage.

Sounds like you do some maintenance on yours.
Pictures ? We might convince you to CSS one or 2 :)

I had a birch come thru the garage wall one Christmas.
Now, no big trees close or in range of the house.

Dave if I take pics we would need a legit GTG here. Im talking 100ft poplars and some 60ft maples right on the edges of the house. But like you said I absolutely love the shade I get and if you took down the one triple set of poplars it would open the canopy like no other

Sounds like you are boxed in good.

Wind storms starting to make you nervous ?,
You have moss on your roof ?

Sonds like several years supply , if you just thinned out a bit . :saw: :axe::coldfire:

Major wind storms the wife and I will sleep downstairs in the far corner of the house. Only get a slight bit of moss on the front roof. But I have at least 8 80-100ft poplars within crashing distance
