loon, Sherwood, listen yesterday was beautiful raked yard south wind no fire first time since October south wind 68 degrees.. this morning my yard looks like loons snowing hard now. temp 22 wind from the north west at 20 mph. I am really missing spring now I an me not blaming our northern neighbors but that wind changed it was something yesterday a tshirt
We received about two inches of the white stuff, (32 out) the pellet stove is still running, I think. We'll switch to the wood stove this morning.
57º out y-day, fired up last night about 11. 34º out right now and I am burning down some red oak coals. Only supposed to get into the mid 40's here today before another warm one for Easter.....I'll put a half load in here soon of some more red oak or elm as that's whats up close to the house. 73º in the upstairs above the stove room.
23 here with about a inch on new snow. Just enough wind to make you want to stay inside. Re-fired after supper last night with some maple, looks like stove will be running till Monday. Everyone have a safe day.
Same temp here Rotti. Currently, we have that "post card" snow falling. You know, that stuff that takes forever to land? Big, light, pretty...ARGGGHHH! What am I saying?
We switched over to Cherry in the Liberty, after going down the driveway, I think we received 4 inches of the white stuff.
Yes, Loon, we also just got a dusting, after some rain last night. Sunny though, which is nice. Supposed to go to 39, but 17 tonight. My place looks like yours, but by plow pile of snow is only about 1/3 the size of yours. It's in full sun, and between the rain and sun has shrunk considerably in the past week. Rotti, you're a little colder than us, and had a bit more snow. Our new snow is all gone now. How cold are you supposed to get tonight? I see weather Canada has a night late next week that only goes down to 32! Canadian Border VT, you're not that far from us, but you are certainly a lot warmer..68 degrees! I don't think we'll see that until May. The frozen lake (and very cold for a while once the ice goes out) moderates our temps a bit. Right on the lake, in a woodlot, even in the summer I am several degrees colder than my near neighbors who are a bit away from the lake. Had the great pleasure of having my first tick running on my arm yesterday. Leash time again for the pooch. He chased the Hawk around the woodlot yesterday. No more of that until next year. Except for the times when he escapes, or I relent and decide to deal with the ticks. My house keeps the temps pretty well. Last few nights I've had a small fire in the evening, and let it burn down to nothing. Still 79 degrees in here, and with the sun, I expect it won't cool to 66 and stove lighting time until early evening. It is a pain not having coals to just toss a few rounds on, but I'd rather save the wood. I'm not sure when the wind is supposed to change and the temps start dropping. If earlier than evening, I'll probably light a fire a bit early to keep the house from dropping quickly. I haven't checked, but assume we will have strong winds from the N or NW, to bring the temps down so much tonight, especially since it is supposed to be cloudy. Maybe they've changed that forecast too, and it won't be cloudy? If so, maybe not windy? If not, I may go star gazing. I noticed that the snowdrops are poking their heads up everywhere. Have some watersprouts to trim off the apple in the front yard. I've got to climb up and do that in the next day or so, before budding, and before the rest of the spring bulbs under the tree have grown too much. In another week or two the spring ephemerals will appear like magic throughout my woodlot, and then the woods will be carpeted with changing species until June. I'm looking forward to the display. Last year was such a strange year, that we went from trees budding to full leaf in about two weeks, and all the Spring flowers bloomed a the same time and not for long, because the trees cut the light off quickly. I'm hoping that did not harm the plants. After the flowers finish, my woods are carpeted with grass. And, if it rains after warm weather we have hundreds of varieties of mushrooms/fungi. I greatly enjoy observing life on my woodlot.
Sherwood, they are predicting -9c tonight with stiff wind and snow showers tonight. Tomorrow looks to be a repeat of today. Long range (for what that's worth) shows temps slowly rising thru next week and then much warmer the following week. I've kept the stove idling all day and will keep er going until Monday. We'll see from there..........................
The stove has been cold for 36 hours. It will not stay that way, lows below freezing next week... KaptJaq
Right at 28º on the back porch right now. Suppose to be a low of 25º overnight. Standing dead Pine and softwood pellets burning overnight.
Woodlands, you're the only person I know who does temps to the tenth of a degree. What kind of thermometer do you have?
